About the role
Power the future. Protect our oceans.
At National Grid, we're investing in the infrastructure needed to deliver a cleaner, more secure energy future.
As part of The Great Grid Upgrade, we're delivering major offshore projects that will connect more renewable energy to the network. We're looking for a Marine Environment and Sustainability Advisor to help ensure these projects are delivered responsibly, with environmental protection and sustainability at the heart of decision making.
Working across major offshore infrastructure projects along the East Coast of England and Scotland, you'll be part of our Strategic Infrastructure portfolio. This is a role with real visibility and influence. You'll spend time on-site, working alongside Marine Operational Safety teams, project teams and supply chain partners, helping to shape decisions and see the impact of your work first-hand.
With flexible hybrid working and access to offices in Warwick, London, Leeds and Edinburgh, you'll have the flexibility to balance collaboration, site engagement and focused work.
What you'll be doing
You'll help ensure environmental and sustainability requirements are understood, applied and delivered across marine activities and projects.
- Lead the integration of environmental and sustainability requirements across offshore and marine activities
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to project teams, contractors and key stakeholders
- Support the delivery of carbon reduction, environmental improvement and nature enhancement initiatives
- Promote environmental best practice across surveys, engineering, construction and procurement activities
- Use data, assurance activities and performance insights to identify risks and drive improvement
- Work with marine contractors and subsea cable partners to enhance environmental performance across the supply chain
- Support compliance with environmental legislation, project commitments and internal standards
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement across environmental and sustainability practices
What we're looking for
You'll bring a combination of technical expertise, practical experience and a genuine commitment to environmental stewardship.
- Experience in environmental or sustainability roles supporting offshore, marine or major infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of maritime regulations and standards, including the ISM Code, SOLAS and MARPOL
- Good understanding of UK and European marine environmental legislation, permitting and consenting frameworks
- Experience influencing and engaging stakeholders across complex project environments
- Ability to translate environmental strategy into practical actions and measurable outcomes
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an environmental, marine, sustainability or related discipline
-
Professional membership of ISEP, IEMA or a similar recognised body
Why join us
You'll join one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes at a time of significant investment in offshore energy networks.
This is an opportunity to influence projects from development through to delivery, working alongside environmental specialists, engineers, marine experts and supply chain partners to help shape best practice and improve environmental outcomes.
Whether you're supporting nature enhancement initiatives, reducing environmental impacts or helping projects navigate complex environmental challenges, you'll play an important role in how National Grid delivers offshore infrastructure for years to come.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £56,000 - £66,000, dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you'll receive a job requirement company car, a bonus based on personal performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we'll double match your contribution up to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You'll also have access to a range of flexible benefits including a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, employee assistance support and matched charity giving.
