ABOUT THE COMPANY

  • Proto is making the world's biggest macro themes directly tradable for the first time: data center growth, AI capex, GPU manufacturing, US foreign arms sales, as easy as trading on Robinhood. Private mainnet beta on Solana launching EOY 2026.

  • We’re building a new market mechanism designed to improve how markets handle a broader range of market outcomes. Rather than re-using perpetual futures or traditional binary predictions, our approach enables more continuous price discovery through a novel market structure, creating a more efficient and intuitive trading experience while enabling 10-20x leverage.

  • Built by a veteran ex-Phantom team (VP Product at Ondo, Quant Research at Citadel, experience leading teams at Google, Pinterest, Facebook, and Carta). We raised our seed round from a tier 1 crypto investor and Coinbase Ventures, with early angels including the founders of Phantom, Jito, Pendle, Goldsky, Meld, and SimpleHash.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • A part-time role, 15-20 hours a week, reporting to the CEO and working closely with our team. Your job is deciding which markets Proto lists and making sure each one is built on numbers we can trust.

  • You trade equities, you go deep into the data and research, and you have opinions about which numbers move a stock. This role turns that into markets.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Recommend which markets we list. Research company, sector and macro metrics that traders care about. For each one, size demand, check how often it reports, and decide whether it's a clean number to trade. Every proposal ends with a clear call: list it or don't, and why.

  • Vet the data source. For every market, name the official source (10-Q/10-K, earnings release, EIA, Census and so on). Check it for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, revisions and a fallback if it's late. Escalate anything unclear instead of guessing.

  • Write the settlement rules. Define the metric, the release schedule and how the market settles, written so two people reading it can't reach different answers. Decide in advance what happens if a figure is restated or delayed.

  • Run the release calendar. Keep the earnings and data-release calendar for every listed market. Be on hand around each release and confirm the reported figure before settlement. This is scheduled coverage, not open-ended on-call.

  • Monitor performance and constantly assess priors. Analyze our market and volume data, on-chain and off-chain trading activity, and social data for the assets behind each theme. Use it to see how every live market performs, update your view on what traders want, and decide which markets to list next and which ones aren't working.

  • Support the team. From time to time, work with leadership, design and marketing to advise on how we position markets and on product and go-to-market strategy, bringing a trader's view of what will land.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • You are an active equities trader. You trade stocks regularly and do fundamentals-based research before you put on a position. You've built your own valuations, down to calculating P/E ratios, and you can talk through a recent trade: the thesis, the catalyst, and what the earnings print did to it. You know consensus versus actual, guidance, and how segment revenue is reported.

  • You live and breathe markets. You're constantly on X, following the state of the world and developments across industries, and always on top of the news. You're enmeshed in trading communities and understand everyone from sophisticated traders to Robinhood degens. You're familiar with options and futures.

  • Research depth. You go past the headline number to the filing, the footnotes and the methodology. You can tell an authoritative source from a convenient one, and you escalate uncertainty instead of guessing.

  • Intense AI workflows. You build your own AI workflows for research, data pulls and analysis, and use them every day. Chatting with a chatbot now and then doesn't count.

  • Strong with data. Advanced spreadsheets required. SQL or Python preferred, at a working level. You don't need to be an engineer.

  • Precise writing. Clear enough that a market's rules leave no room for argument.

  • US hours, with availability around major earnings dates and data releases.

NICE TO HAVES

  • Professional experience on the buy side or sell side, in equity research, on a trading desk, in investment banking or in corporate finance.

  • You actively trade on-chain (perps or prediction markets), not just follow crypto.

  • Coverage of semiconductors, AI infrastructure, energy or defense.

  • Experience building KPI models or consensus estimates.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary and equity calibrated to seniority and location

  • Hybrid/remote options available, with team off-sites

  • Top-tier hardware, whatever else helps you ship

  • News, data and AI subscriptions you need to do your job

  • Small flat team, fast decisions
