Marketing Strategist
Client Strategy | Campaigns | Content
Location: NYC or Tri-State strongly preferred, east coast hours required (remote role)
Salary: $85,000–$95,000
Type: Full-Time
Hi, we’re Big Human. We’re a full-service digital product agency. We work with the world’s most interesting brands to bring their vision to life through technology, design, branding and marketing.
Since 2010, we’ve produced 262 websites, 80 applications and 50 brands for clients like Rockefeller Center, Gemini, Quinn and Netflix. And we’ve still found time for our own passion projects on the side (like HQ Trivia and Vine).
We’re hiring a Marketing Strategist to own client marketing programs from start to finish. You’ll work across a varied mix of clients, from cultural institutions and nonprofits to consumer platforms and enterprise B2B, plus Big Human’s own brand.
This role is for someone several years into their agency career who wants more ownership and is ready to grow fast. You’ll work closely with our Director of Marketing, who will invest in your development. In return, we’re looking for someone who takes real ownership.
About the Role
At Big Human, we’re a strategic growth partner to our clients. Our goal isn’t to do more marketing. It’s to do the right marketing.
You’ll start every project by defining what success looks like, then set clear goals and milestones to get there. You’ll estimate how long the work will take, prioritize against it, and keep clients and teammates clear on what’s happening and why.
You’ll work across channels: social, email, content and web. The right mix depends on the client and the goal, and you’ll help decide it.
AI is part of how we work. You’ll use it to explore ideas, draft and analyze. Claude often takes the first pass on a draft. Your job is to bring the taste and judgment that make it good, and to own the final result.
What You’ll Do
Client Strategy & Planning
- Translate client goals into marketing plans with clear goals, milestones and success metrics
- Take the first strategic pass when a project starts from scratch
- Shape go-to-market and launch plans for new products, features and campaigns
- Pull client inputs, research and data together into a clear direction
- Estimate the hours work will take, then prioritize against that
- Break plans into weekly actions so work doesn’t stall or drift
- Make trade-offs, say “no” or “not now” when work won’t move the needle, and explain why
- Know where each client engagement stands so the work stays focused on what matters at that stage
Campaigns & Channels
- Plan and run campaigns across social, email, content and web, choosing the channel mix based on the client’s goal
- Come up with creative concepts from a blank page
- Work independently by default, and collaborate with designers, writers and other teammates when the project calls for it
- Make sure every campaign ladders back to data, with a clear metric defined before it launches
- Work with our analytics lead so content and campaigns support data-driven discovery
Content & Editing
- Edit AI-assisted and writer drafts (emails, articles, website copy, social) until they meet our quality bar
- Fact-check and stand behind everything you send to a client
- Bring specificity, voice and structure to copy
Performance & Reporting
- Report on progress against each client’s goals
- Prepare weekly client decks and updates
- Lead with the “so what”: what happened, why it matters, and what we do next
- Use what’s working to decide where to double down, adjust or stop
- Run tests and share what you learned
Client & Team Communication
- Run day-to-day work with clients alongside our Marketing Manager
- Present plans, updates and recommendations clearly and confidently
- Flag risks, blockers and uncertainty early, even before you have the answer
- Close loops in Asana and in conversation
Systems & Process
- Manage your own workstreams in Asana
- Turn lessons learned into templates, SOPs and repeatable workflows
Who You Are
- 4–6 years of marketing experience, with at least 3 years at an agency handling multiple clients at once
- A generalist with real range across channels, and curious enough to learn something new when a client needs it
- Quick to get up to speed on a new industry. You can get credible on enterprise software one week and a cultural institution the next
- A creative thinker. You can come up with original concepts, not just polish existing ones
- An editor with taste. You can turn a flat draft into something specific and readable
- An owner. You define success before you start, make calls with imperfect information, and don’t wait to be told what’s next
- Focused on results. You balance brand storytelling with growth, and you care whether the work worked, not just that it shipped
- Coachable. When you get feedback, it shows up in the next version
- Careful with risk. When something touches budget, timelines, accuracy or the client relationship, you pause and flag it before saying yes
- Clear and direct. You say “my recommendation is,” and you can disagree well, with clients and with us
- Comfortable with AI tools, and clear that you’re responsible for what they produce
Bonus Points If…
- You have strong social instincts and can show us an account you grew or posts you came up with
- You have experience with short-form video or motion
- You’ve launched early-stage products or worked closely with product designers and engineers
- You’ve worked in regulated or compliance-heavy categories
- You’ve run email programs (Mailchimp a plus)
- You’ve supported influencer or creator programs
Who This Is Not For
- Specialists who want to stay in one channel
- Writers who want to focus mainly on drafting
- Coordinators who prefer to execute someone else’s plan
- Candidates without agency experience
What Success Looks Like
- 30 days: You know your clients, our team and our workflows, and you’re running recurring work on your accounts.
- 60 days: You’re setting goals and weekly priorities for your accounts without being asked.
- 90 days: Clients come to you for direction, your drafts need less editing, and your accounts have clear goals with visible progress against them.
