Who’s who in the retail space The position reports to the Sales Manager of Takealot Marketplace . Purpose of the role: The Marketplace Promotions & Merchandising Lead will report directly to the Sales Manager of Takealot Marketplace and will be responsible for leading the promotion buyers team while developing and executing the overall promotions and merchandising strategy for the marketplace. Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Develop and implement the overall promotions and merchandising strategy for the Takealot Marketplace Lead, mentor and develop a team of Promotion Buyers to deliver exceptional commercial results Own and achieve the marketplace promotions GMV targets and other key commercial metrics Create and optimize a promotional calendar that maximizes seller participation, customer engagement, and commercial outcomes Design and implement merchandising guidelines that align with customer preferences and business objectives Analyze marketplace data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement Build strong relationships with key marketplace sellers to secure exclusive promotional offers Collaborate with Marketing, UX/UI, and Tech teams to enhance the visibility and effectiveness of marketplace promotions Partner with the Account Management team to ensure strategic alignment on seller promotions and participation Monitor competitive landscape and industry trends to maintain Takealot’s market leadership position Drive continuous improvement in promotional processes and merchandising frameworks Present performance metrics and strategic recommendations to senior leadership Ensure promotions align with inventory availability and operational capabilities Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing or related field Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in e-commerce, retail, or marketplace businesses 3+ years of people management experience leading commercial teams Proven track record in developing and implementing successful merchandising strategies Experience in promotional planning and execution at scale Strong proficiency in data analysis and reporting using advanced Excel and BI tools Previous experience working with third-party sellers or vendors (advantageous) Understanding of e-commerce merchandising best practices and trends The skills we need: Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen Data-driven decision maker who can translate insights into actionable plans Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop team members Results-oriented with a focus on achieving and exceeding targets Exceptional negotiation and relationship management skills Strong problem-solving abilities with an analytical approach Excellent verbal and written communication skills Adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment Customer-centric mindset Highly organized with strong project management capabilities Let’s talk about life @ Takealot Group The power is in your hands : We offer a market-related Total Remuneration Package that allows full flexibility according to your needs.
