Part-Time MBA Intern — Youth Sports Acquisitions
About the opportunity
We are pursuing an independent-sponsor-style buy-and-build strategy in youth sports. The search is led by an exited, self-funded searcher with private equity and operating experience.
This internship is for an MBA student interested in entrepreneurship through acquisition (ETA), search funds, or independent sponsorship. You will take part in an active acquisition search and learn how a business is sourced, evaluated, and acquired. Depending on timing, you may support a live deal and work on projects after an acquisition.
The search also uses applied AI and custom software for tasks such as NDA processing, financial analysis, and data-room review. Two developers who have worked with the search lead before are helping build these tools. You may help improve the tools and explore how they could support the broader platform.
What you might work on
The work will change as the search develops. Projects may include:
Researching youth sports markets, companies, and trends
Finding and evaluating potential acquisition targets
Supporting financial and commercial analysis
Helping with due diligence and deal execution
Improving AI-enabled tools used in the search
Supporting planning and projects after an acquisition
The main focus is the acquisition search. The mix of work will depend on what is active and where you can contribute most.
Who may be a good fit
You may be a strong fit if you:
Are pursuing an MBA and have a serious interest in ETA, search funds, or independent sponsorship
Want to learn how acquisitions work and how to build a company after a deal
Take initiative and can make progress on open-ended work
Bring early ideas or a rough plan for discussion instead of waiting for detailed instructions
Work well independently and communicate clearly with the search lead and developers
Use good judgment about when to test an idea and when to check in first
Experience in product management, software, engineering, or another technical field is a plus. You do not need to be a developer. Product judgment and the ability to give clear feedback to a technical team would be useful.
Schedule and location
Plan for 10–20 hours per week, with flexibility around your academic schedule and the needs of the work. This is an in-semester internship. It will run for at least the fall semester, with the option for both sides to extend through the spring semester.
For students based in Los Angeles, we expect one in-person day each week. We are especially interested in MBA students at UCLA or USC. We are also open to students at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, given the search’s active pipeline in Southeast Michigan.
