Join the GE Wind Offshore Main Component Update (MCU) team, responsible for the strategy, tools, and workforce behind major component exchanges on offshore wind turbines. As the Offshore MCU Project Manager, you'll take on a strategic leadership role overseeing the full lifecycle of heavy corrective maintenance projects — from vessel load-out through completion of mechanical and electrical operations. You will lead the project MCU team and engineering functions, manage client and subcontractor interfaces, and ensure safe, on-time, on-budget delivery of major component exchange and update scopes across wind farm projects.Job Description
Project Management & Leadership
- Direct the MCU project lifecycle, from commercial proposal through offshore execution of major component exchanges
- Lead, mentor, and coordinate the project engineering and operations team
- Manage project budgets, financial performance, and resource allocation across engineering studies, specialized tooling, and offshore labor
- Oversee scheduling, identify critical paths, and mitigate risks or weather delays related to offshore heavy lifting and component replacement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, project teams, and back-office management
Tender / Planning Phase
- Oversee planning, budgeting, and cost estimation for major component exchange packages
- Review metocean analyses and weather-related downtime assessments for offshore heavy lifts
- Validate tender documentation, guidelines, and standard operating procedures for offshore MCUs
- Collaborate with marine contractors and commercial teams on preliminary lifting plans, vessel deck layouts, and sea-fastening arrangements (with the Project Engineer)
Preparation Phase
- Direct review and approval of lifting plans, MCU manuals, and method statements for exchanging major components (blades, gearboxes, generators, main bearings, transformers), with the Project Engineer
- Lead collaboration with the Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS), customer, and MCU contractor on operational sequencing, rigging design, and lifting approvals
- Ensure compliance with Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and GE's ServiceMax digital document management system
- Coordinate with Sourcing on procurement, mobilization, and timely delivery of replacement components, tooling, and spare parts
- Lead pre-operation HAZID sessions with the EHS team and finalize MCU scopes of work for labor contracts
Offshore Execution
- Ensure the MCU exchange strategy and safety standards are rigorously followed during active offshore operations
- Provide strategic and operational support to offshore MCU Operations Managers and vessel operations during campaigns
- Validate as-built sea-fastening, lifting gear, and vessel deck layouts with the Project Engineer, Transportation team, and vessel supplier
- Anticipate operational obstacles and coordinate back-office/project team support to resolve site challenges
- Champion GE's EHS culture across all documentation, preparation, and live offshore support phases
- Lead lessons-learned sessions and assess results for continuous improvement
Scope & Working Relationships
- Reports to the Head of MCU Department; fully accountable for MCU deliverables, schedule, and budget
- Translates corporate standards into actionable project execution plans tailored to customer requirements and local regulations
- Authorized to make critical technical, logistical, and financial decisions within the MCU scope, balancing constraints and safety mandates
- Primary external interface with clients, Marine Warranty Surveyors, vessel suppliers, and third-party stakeholders
- Partners closely with Sourcing, EHS, Engineering Back-Office/Project, and Commercial/Tender teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in wind energy, offshore construction, or oil and gas
- Proven experience managing large-scale offshore operations, Transport & Installation (T&I) engineering, or major EPCI/T&I contracts
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and operations teams
