Health Quality Innovators (HQI) is seeking an experienced MDS Quality Improvement Consultant to assist nursing homes in strengthening quality measure performance, improving MDS accuracy, supporting reimbursement success, and advancing quality outcomes. This position is ideal for candidates with extensive nursing home experience and deep expertise in Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) processes, MDS coding, reimbursement systems, quality measures, and QAPI. What You'll Do Provide expert consultation regarding MDS processes and coding accuracy Assist facilities in identifying quality measure opportunities and improvement strategies Coach clinical teams on MDS documentation and assessment practices Support Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities Perform root cause analyses related to quality measure performance Educate facility leadership, MDS coordinators, and interdisciplinary teams Interpret regulatory guidance and assist with implementation Collaborate with HQI nursing home subject matter experts Why This Role Matters This position helps nursing homes transform assessment data into meaningful quality improvement initiatives that improve resident outcomes, strengthen regulatory performance, and support sustainable operational excellence. Fully remote work environment Supportive and collaborative culture Opportunity to improve care for thousands of residents across the Southeast Professional development and growth opportunities Meaningful mission-driven work Requirements Required Qualifications Licensed Registered Nurse Minimum of 3 years of nursing home experience Demonstrated experience with MDS assessment processes Strong knowledge of CMS Quality Measures Experience providing education and coaching to healthcare teams Preferred Qualifications RAC-CT Certification MDS Coordinator experience Reimbursement or Medicare PPS experience QAPI Certified Professional (QCP) Experience as a Director of Nursing, MDS Coordinator, Clinical Reimbursement Specialist, Regional Clinical Consultant, or similar role Experience improving facility quality measure outcomes Highly Desired Backgrounds MDS Coordinator Clinical Reimbursement Specialist Regional MDS Consultant Director of Nursing with MDS oversight RAC-CT certified professional Former Nursing Home QIO/QIN-QIO consultant Knowledge Areas MDS 3.0 RAI Manual Quality Measures (QM) Five-Star Quality Rating System Reimbursement and case mix Regulatory compliance Root cause analysis Performance improvement methodologies QAPI Ideal Candidate: An experienced nursing home clinician with strong MDS, RAC-CT, QM, reimbursement, and QAPI expertise who can serve as a trusted advisor to facility leadership teams Travel: Limited (<15%) state/regional travel may be required for QICs who reside in the Southeast to visit provider locations. Some non-standard hours may be required for QICs who reside outside the Eastern time zone to support providers or collaborate with colleagues.
