Or Robust Design Consultant
Do you enjoy working through complex mechanical problems, questioning assumptions and understanding why a design behaves the way it does?
At RD8, you will work hands-on with mechanical product development, using analysis and practical design work to solve challenging client problems. You will join an international team of mechanical engineers in a dedicated technical environment where specialist expertise is central to the work as part of a dynamic start-up
This role is for engineers who want to stay close to the engineering work and don’t shy away from the hard and interesting challenges where you have to use all of your toolbox
About RD8
We help companies that cannot afford to get it wrong make better engineering design decisions. Through consulting, software and ventures, we strengthen how mechanical R&D teams think, design and deliver.
Our aim is to make Robust Design an everyday engineering practice.
Our engineering ecosystem brings together specialist knowledge, training, documentation and software.
We work with R&D, operations and manufacturing organizations across industries, including major international companies, to make mechanical products less sensitive to variation.
What you will do
As a Robust Design Consultant, you will work directly on clients’ mechanical design challenges. You will investigate how parts interact, how tolerances affect function, and how designs can be improved.
The role combines engineering work with client dialogue and technical responsibility for project delivery.
- Work with small teams to design, analyse, and improve mechanical products. We work either inside our client’s teams or as more independent teams.
- Develop solutions for new products across several industries.
- Analyse and improve existing products in a range of industries.
- Create data-driven transparency in your solutions to improve decision-making.
- Explain findings and design recommendations to clients, help deliver projects, and coordinate technical work within the team.
You will be working on these tasks with frontrunners within the area of Robust Design - experts on a global level, in a start-up with global ambitions.
We are continuously developing our framework and adopting or creating solutions for our engineering ecosystem.
There’s a short way from decision to action and a high degree of freedom to shape the company and solutions. Great opportunities to take responsibility and for shaping business areas going forward
Your background
We welcome engineers with two or more years of relevant professional experience, ideally in mechanical product development, as well as senior specialists who want to deepen their expertise and remain hands-on.
- A master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills across mechanical function, tolerance variation, and solid mechanics.
- Knowledge of Robust Design principles.
- Knowledge of production technologies and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Fluent English.
Additional experience we value
- Working knowledge of statistical methods and finite element simulation methods.
- Experience with prototyping tools and methods.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Danish or German language skills.
- Advanced simulation expertise.
Location and travel
This is a hybrid role based at our headquarters at Strandboulevarden 122, 3rd floor, 2100 Copenhagen, Denmark.
Expect 0–20 travel days per year.
Why join RD8
- Work alongside Robust Design specialists on mechanical challenges across products and industries.
- Have a high degree of freedom in how you approach your work and contribute to the methods and tools we develop.
- Flexibility to work from home when project and client commitments allow, with support for a home office setup
- Optional monthly social events, a subsidized lunch scheme and coffee, tea and snacks at the office.
- Take on responsibility and help shape our services and business areas as the company develops.
