Ready to design the equipment behind circular concrete?
At everox, we transforming waste concrete into high-quality drop-in substitutes for cement, aggregates and sand. Our mission is to reduce global CO₂ emissions by 2% by phasing out the use of virgin materials in concrete via the patented everox waste concrete upcycling process.
We are now moving from pilots to industrial production. At our Rotterdam test site we develop and validate our process on small-scale pilots and in our own labs. Our first commercial facility in 's-Gravendeel is the next big step. After that: a second flagship plant abroad and new modular product lines that bring our technology to customers in containerised form.
About the role
As Mechanical Engineer, you are the 3D modelling and design strength of our mechanical team. You turn design input into accurate 3D models and drawings, and you are just as comfortable with your hands on the equipment.
The position sits in a small, hands-on engineering team of mechanical, process and automation engineers, reporting to our CTO. Besides your own projects, you work on the projects of both our Senior Mechanical Engineers: one focuses on our ’s-Gravendeel plant and future facilities, the other on our new containerised product lines.
Day to day, the work brings you together with these seniors, our process engineers and R&D, so you will receive direct coaching and build a broad knowledge of our technology from day one. Half of the time goes to our new modular product line, the other half to our test site, the operating facility in ’s-Gravendeel and the next international plants. International travel is part of the role for engineering reviews, factory acceptance tests, construction and commissioning of new plants.
Responsibilities
Create 3D models, drawings and bills of materials based on design input from our Senior Mechanical Engineers, for our containerised products, pilots, prototypes and plant modifications.
Turn concepts, sketches and redlines into complete drawing and fabrication packages, and keep our CAD models, drawing standards and part libraries consistent and up to date.
Perform mechanical calculations, select components, request and compare quotations, and review supplier documentation.
Complete the commissioning of our pilot-scale carbonation reactor and hand it over to R&D.
Design and implement modifications on our small-scale pilots for carbonation, milling, crushing and sieving, and build and test prototypes together with R&D, for example for continuous carbonation.
Prepare the mechanical design of modifications on our ’s-Gravendeel facility under management of change (MOC), and support the review of mechanical deliverables for the next flagship plant.
Take part in FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning on site.
Maintain mechanical documentation and revision control, contribute to risk assessments and design reviews, and help build a strong safety culture on site.
What you bring
We are looking for a mechanical engineer with a few years of experience who is as comfortable in a 3D model as next to a piece of equipment on site. Turning someone else’s input into an accurate model appeals to you, and when that input is incomplete, you ask the right questions. You want to learn from experienced engineers and grow in mechanical design, and you see pilots and prototypes as a chance to get your hands dirty.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
3 to 4 years of experience in mechanical design and project execution, for example in machine building or industrial equipment.
Strong skills in 3D parametric CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred), including assemblies, drawings and bills of materials.
The ability to turn input from others into accurate models and drawings.
A hands-on, practical attitude: comfortable assembling, testing and troubleshooting equipment.
Experience with, or a strong interest in, pilot, prototype or test installations.
Fluent English; Dutch language skills are a plus.
Willingness to travel internationally for engineering reviews, FAT and commissioning.
Nice-to-haves:
Experience with bulk solids handling equipment, such as crushers, mills or screens.
Experience with skid-mounted or containerised equipment.
Experience with Autodesk Vault or another PDM system.
Basic knowledge of CE marking and pressure equipment.
A VCA certificate.
What we offer
Competitive compensation based on the market, your experience and qualifications (€55,000-€65,000 gross per year including holiday allowance).
Employee ownership through our ESOP and a company pension plan at Zwitserleven.
27 days of annual holiday leave.
A one-year contract for 40 hours per week, with the intention to extend to a permanent contract.
Training and development, including vendor training where relevant.
Coaching by two Senior Mechanical Engineers, working side by side on their projects.
An impactful position in a fast-growing, mission-driven scale-up.
Why join us?
We are a dynamic, diverse and international team located at SubZero, a hub for Greentech start-ups in the Port of Rotterdam. Our flat hierarchy gives you ownership of your work and room to grow, and the chance to help shape the engineering standards of a company moving from its first plant to multiple plants and products.
