Location: Matosinhos, Porto
Type of contract: permanent, full-time

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Addvolt/Carrier is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer with focus on vehicle applications and product sustainability to join our Systems & Application team. We are looking for a mechanical engineer who can translate customer, vehicle, and systems requirements into robust integration solutions while applying sustainability principles throughout design, validation, installation and continuous product improvement.
The successful candidate will work at the interface between customer needs, vehicle constraints, installation partners and our product development teams. This opportunity is suited to a curious and responsible engineer who combines practical problem-solving, customer orientation and a strong commitment to cleaner and more efficient transport solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Assess customer, vehicle, trailer and refrigeration-unit requirements and convert them into clear mechanical application specifications;
- Develop mechanical integration concepts for Addvolt/Carrier systems, including equipment positioning, brackets, enclosures, mechanical interfaces, routing constraints, accessibility and serviceability;
- Create and review 3D models, 2D drawings, tolerance schemes, installation layouts and technical documentation using Creo and associated tools;
- Perform feasibility studies, packaging analyses and design reviews for new OEM integrations and customer-specific applications;
- Apply Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, Design for Service and Design for Sustainability principles to application solutions;
- Support prototype builds, first installations, commissioning and field validation, coordinating technical actions with customers, installers, suppliers and internal teams;
- Define mechanical validation requirements and support structural, vibration, thermal, environmental and durability testing;
- Investigate field issues, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive design improvements;
- Contribute to material selection, durability, repairability, modularity and end-of-life considerations;
- Create and maintain application BOMs, drawings and product data aligned with the PLM system, ensuring configuration control and traceability;
- Prepare customer-facing technical documentation, installation instructions, validation reports and lessons learned;
- Collaborate closely with Systems, Electrical, Software, Field Service, Quality, Operations and Product teams in an agile environment.
Experience in the above roles is highly valued.
CANDIDATE VALUES AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- Experience in mechanical design, product development, application engineering, vehicle integration or industrial-equipment integration;
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D technical drawings; experience with Creo is preferred;
- Knowledge of sheet metal, machined parts, welded structures, extrusions, polymers, fasteners, sealing and corrosion protection;
- Understanding of tolerances, GD&T, material selection, manufacturing processes and cost-conscious design;
- Knowledge of PLM and BOM management; PTC Windchill experience is valued;
- Awareness of sustainable-design approaches, lifecycle thinking, circularity, repairability or environmental assessment;
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, vehicle layouts, installation constraints and validation requirements;
- Strong problem-solving skills, engineering judgement and attention to detail;
- Customer-oriented communication and confidence working with multidisciplinary and international stakeholders;
- Autonomy, accountability and ability to manage priorities in a fast-moving environment;
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English;
- Availability for occasional travel to customers, suppliers, installation partners and test locations.
Nice to have:
- Experience in transport refrigeration, commercial vehicles, trailers, e-mobility, battery systems or power-electronics packaging;
- Experience with sustainability requirements, lifecycle assessment, eco-design methodologies;
- Knowledge of validation planning, DFMEA, root-cause analysis or change-management processes;
- Experience supporting prototypes, installations, testing or field problem-solving;
- Experience working with Agile or Scrum product-development teams.

Pay Range
