Reporting to the Manager, Hardware Engineering – Core Systems, the Mechanical Engineer III will bring bold mechanical ideas to life in complex instruments that help protect the world’s water. You will own mechanical design from early concept through production release, create inventive solutions that balance customer needs, performance, compliance, cost, and manufacturability, and partner across electrical, firmware, software, systems, and project teams to deliver seamlessly integrated products.
This position is part of the Hard Engineering, Core Systems team located in Loveland, Colorado, and will be on-site four days per week.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Create and maintain robust 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and product documentation using SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS PDM
- Drive engineering changes through PDM and PLM workflows with accuracy and disciplined configuration control
- Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and stack-up calculations to deliver dependable performance at both component and system levels
- Select materials, finishes, manufacturing processes, and components that optimize performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost
- Turn ideas into learning through hands-on prototypes, builds, testing, and rapid design iteration
- Plan, execute, and interpret verification and validation testing to prove designs meet product requirements
- Integrate mechanical designs with electronics, firmware, software, and—where applicable—optics, resolving complex cross-disciplinary issues along the way
- Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions for design, manufacturing, quality, and field-performance challenges
- Guide designs through manufacturing transfer, pilot builds, production launch, and ongoing sustaining support
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 4+ years of relevant mechanical design and product-development experience
- Demonstrated ownership of complete product-development cycle—from problem definition and ideation through prototyping, verification and validation, manufacturing transfer, and production release
- Experience designing complex electromechanical or system-level products and collaborating across electrical, firmware, software, systems, manufacturing, quality, and project teams
- Strong working knowledge of design for manufacturability and production processes such as injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, machining, and electronics packaging
- Advanced proficiency in SOLIDWORKS and practical experience with SOLIDWORKS PDM, configuration control, release management, and engineering documentation
- Experience with analytical instruments, sensors, measurement devices, optics, or other precision electromechanical products is a plus
