Job Description
This role focuses on leading the mechanical and HVAC engineering scope for complex industrial, mission-critical, and EPC projects. You will apply advanced mechanical engineering expertise to design, specify, and integrate HVAC systems, coordinate multidisciplinary design efforts, manage vendor interactions, and support construction and commissioning activities. You will also mentor junior engineers and designers while ensuring that project quality, budget, and schedule objectives are consistently achieved.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and coordinate the mechanical and HVAC scope for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives.
- Develop detailed engineering specifications, technical data sheets, and technical requisitions for HVAC equipment.
- Perform HVAC system evaluations, including equipment sizing reviews and system selection to meet project performance and reliability requirements.
- Coordinate the integration of HVAC equipment into 3D models and BIM processes to support accurate and clash-free design.
- Review HVAC layouts, equipment supports, clearances, and maintenance access to ensure safe, efficient, and maintainable installations.
- Analyze and resolve clash detection results in collaboration with other disciplines to optimize system routing and equipment placement.
- Coordinate closely with structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, architecture, and construction teams to achieve cohesive multidisciplinary designs.
- Support vendor selection by participating in bid evaluations, providing technical clarifications, and reviewing vendor documentation for compliance with project requirements.
- Define HVAC equipment electrical load requirements and interface points with utility systems and building electrical infrastructure.
- Define controls and Building Automation System interface points for HVAC equipment to ensure proper integration with overall control strategies.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, and other mechanical and HVAC deliverables for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Provide technical support during construction, including field engineering assistance and resolution of mechanical and HVAC-related issues.
- Support commissioning and startup activities by providing HVAC technical guidance and ensuring systems perform as designed.
- Contribute to cost estimating activities related to HVAC equipment and systems, including equipment selection and technical input.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance on mechanical and HVAC engineering practices, and ensuring adherence to quality standards, budget constraints, and schedule commitments.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 12+ years of professional engineering experience.
- 610+ years of experience in the EPC/EPCm industry or with an operating company serving the chemical process industry.
- Relevant industry experience in sectors such as munitions, chemicals, petrochemicals, chemical intermediates, fibers, or related process industries.
- Advanced mechanical engineering expertise applied to HVAC systems for complex industrial and mission-critical projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in HVAC system design and engineering, including system configuration and performance analysis.
- Strong experience in HVAC equipment specification development, including technical data sheets and requisitions.
- Proven ability to perform vendor technical evaluations and bid reviews for HVAC equipment and related systems.
- Experience reviewing 3D models and coordinating HVAC designs within BIM environments.
- Capability to review equipment layouts and maintenance accessibility to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Experience coordinating structural support interfaces for HVAC equipment and associated mechanical systems.
- Ability to develop electrical load and utility requirements for HVAC equipment.
- Experience defining controls and Building Automation System interface requirements for HVAC systems.
- Background in providing construction support and field engineering for mechanical and HVAC installations.
- Experience contributing technical input to cost estimating and equipment-related budgeting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- ASHRAE membership or HVAC-related professional certification preferred.
- Strong multidisciplinary coordination skills, working effectively with structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, architecture, and construction teams.
- Experience with BIM processes and 3D model integration for mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Ability to manage vendor relationships, including technical clarifications and document reviews.
- Demonstrated mentoring capability, supporting the development of junior engineers and designers.
