Job Description
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our engineering team. In this role, you will actively support the development of international building engineering projects, focusing on HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and Plumbing (MEP) systems design, engineering calculations, BIM modeling, and technical documentation under the mentorship of senior engineers.
Duration & Commitment:
• Duration: 6-month academic internship.
• Dedication: Full-time (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday).
• Modality: Hybrid.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in thermal load calculations, psychrometric analysis, and equipment sizing.
• Support the preliminary design of plumbing networks (domestic cold/hot water, drainage, and venting).
• Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, and head loss evaluations.
• Assist in drafting and 3D modeling using AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
• Review, interpret, and prepare technical engineering specifications and drawings according to international building codes (ASHRAE, IPC, IMC).
• Collaborate with cross-functional project teams and participate in engineering technical reviews.
Requirements
Academic Requirements:
• Active student currently enrolled in the 9th or 10th semester of Mechanical Engineering at Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), close to completing degree requirements or graduating.
• Full-time availability (40 hours per week during standard business hours) with no course schedule conflicts.
• Mandatory coursework completed and approved: Sistemas Térmicos I, Potencia Fluida, and Electricidad y Electrónica Básica.
• Desirable coursework: Refrigeración y Aire Acondicionado, Sistemas Térmicos II.
Required Technical Skills & Knowledge:
• Solid understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• Core understanding of fluid flow, pipe sizing, pressure losses, and pumping systems.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations.
• Technical English proficiency (B1/B2 level): solid reading comprehension of engineering manuals, specifications, and codes.
• Fundamental technical drawing and plan reading skills.
Desirable Qualifications (Plus):
• Familiarity with US Customary / Imperial Units (CFM, GPM, BTU/h, Tons, PSI).
• Working knowledge or practical exposure to Revit MEP and Navisworks.
• Basic familiarity with international MEP codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, IPC).
