About GPL Technologies
GPL Technologies is a technology services partner specializing in the media and entertainment industry, headquartered in Los Angeles.
We're partnering with a rapidly growing media production company in North Carolina to find an experienced Media Infrastructure Engineer to support its expanding production environment.
The Role
We're looking for a hands-on engineer who enjoys taking ownership of infrastructure and keeping complex systems running smoothly.
In this role, you'll support the technology behind a high-volume post-production operation, including data center infrastructure, enterprise storage, networking, and media archiving systems.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a mix of hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, and improving how systems operate. You'll have the independence to manage infrastructure and solve problems while collaborating with a small technical team supporting a busy editorial environment.
The position is based in the Raleigh area and combines remote systems management with regular on-site data center work. Some travel to Greenville, NC, is also required.
What You'll Be Doing
Infrastructure & Systems
Maintain and improve the reliability, performance, and availability of critical production infrastructure.
Handle physical infrastructure work, including server installations, equipment upgrades, cabling, and hardware maintenance.
Administer Windows and Linux servers, virtualized environments, and essential network services.
Monitor system performance, investigate incidents, and coordinate hardware or software support with vendors.
Storage, Backup & Archiving
Support large-scale shared storage environments used by editorial and production teams.
Monitor storage utilization, troubleshoot performance issues, and plan for future capacity needs.
Manage media archiving and retrieval, including LTO tape libraries, data verification, and off-site storage.
Maintain reliable backup and recovery processes to protect production assets.
Networking & Production Support
Troubleshoot network connectivity, bandwidth, and performance issues across production infrastructure.
Support high-speed networks, switches, VLANs, firewalls, and related services.
Work with editorial teams to resolve technical issues affecting media access, file transfers, and production workflows.
Assist with infrastructure improvements and expansion projects.
Automation & Improvements
Develop scripts and tools to simplify routine administration and improve operational efficiency.
Support integrations between local infrastructure and cloud-based storage services.
Maintain technical documentation and identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, and workflows.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or a related technical role.
Hands-on experience supporting servers, networking equipment, and data center infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of enterprise storage systems, including NAS/SAN technologies and shared storage environments.
Experience with LTO tape libraries, media archiving, or large-scale backup systems.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, and high-speed connectivity.
Experience administering Linux, Windows Server, virtualization platforms, and Active Directory.
Familiarity with macOS environments and supporting creative or technical users.
Experience with scripting or automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar tools.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and nontechnical users.
Based in Raleigh, NC, or willing to relocate, with availability for on-site work and occasional travel.
Nice to Have
Experience in media production, post-production, broadcast, VFX, or animation.
Familiarity with storage platforms such as Qumulo, PowerScale/Isilon, Avid NEXIS, or SNS EVO.
Experience with archive solutions such as Spectra Logic, Quantum, Archiware, or SGL.
Knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro or other professional editing applications.
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), media asset management systems, or file transfer technologies.
Relevant networking, storage, or cloud certifications.
Experience in media and entertainment is a plus, but we're also interested in strong infrastructure engineers from other industries who are eager to work in a production environment.
