Medical Provider (Physician, NP, or PA) Position Summary The Medical Provider serves as the Responsible Health Authority (RHA) and provides clinical leadership for health services within the correctional facility. This role ensures an organized and coordinated system of care while delivering direct patient services in accordance with professional standards, facility policy, and NCCHC requirements. The Medical Provider exercises independent clinical judgment within their licensed scope of practice. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions. • Perform scheduled clinics, sick call follow-up, and chronic care management. • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications within licensed scope. • Coordinate hospital, specialty, and emergency referrals as clinically indicated. • Support continuity of care during intake, incarceration, transfer, and release. • Oversee coordination of medical services and support access to necessary levels of care. • Ensure clinical policies, procedures, and standing orders are followed as written. • Participate in review and annual approval of standing orders and clinical protocols. • Support appropriate staffing, delegation, and supervision practices. • Serve as the primary clinical contact for facility leadership on health-related issues. • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. • Review adverse clinical events, deaths in custody, and grievance trends as required. • Support accreditation readiness and compliance with NCCHC standards. • Promote medical autonomy and prevent non-clinical interference in care decisions. • Work collaboratively with nursing leadership, mental health services, dental providers, and administrative staff. • Provide clinical consultation and guidance to nursing and ancillary staff. • Communicate clinically relevant information while maintaining patient confidentiality. Qualifications • Active New Mexico license as: o Physician (MD or DO), or o Nurse Practitioner. • DEA registration, as applicable to prescribing authority. • Experience in correctional, institutional, or high-acuity healthcare preferred.
