Job Summary

The Medical Strategist is a high-potential, client-facing medical communications professional who brings scientific rigor, strategic thinking, and a strong understanding of Medical Affairs to Woven Health Collective’s Medical Communication division. This role will help shape and deliver insight-led medical communication strategies and programs for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients, with a particular emphasis on metabolic and/or liver diseases (eg, diabetes, obesity, MASH, etc).

The ideal candidate is comfortable synthesizing complex clinical evidence, facilitating strategic discussions with clients, and building credible, productive relationships with external experts and key opinion leaders (KOLs). Working in close partnership with Account, Scientific, Creative, and Project Management colleagues, the Medical Strategist will translate medical and stakeholder insights into practical, compliant, and differentiated solutions that support Medical Affairs objectives across the product lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities and Skills

  • Medical Affairs Strategy:
    • Support the development of integrated, evidence-based Medical Affairs and medical communications strategies aligned with client objectives, product lifecycle stage, and the needs of healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and scientific stakeholders.
    • Apply a strong understanding of core Medical Affairs functions, including medical strategy, scientific exchange, medical education, publication planning, congress engagement, and external expert engagement, to inform recommendations and program design.
    • Contribute to strategic planning documents, medical communication plans, scientific platforms, narrative development, stakeholder journeys, and tactical roadmaps.
  • Metabolic/Liver Disease Expertise:
    • Serve as a subject-matter resource and remain current on disease-state science, treatment paradigms, clinical development, guidelines, diagnostic considerations, health-system dynamics, and the evolving stakeholder landscape.
    • Apply expertise to support the development of credible scientific content, strategic recommendations, advisory-board discussions, and client-facing materials.
    • Distill complex clinical data and scientific developments into relevant, accurate, and audience-appropriate insights for internal teams and client stakeholders.
  • Client Partnership and Strategic Counsel:
    • Participate actively in client meetings, workshops, and planning sessions; communicate recommendations with clarity, confidence, and sound scientific rationale.
    • Develop polished presentations and lead assigned portions of client discussions, including strategic readouts, landscape reviews, message-development sessions, and program recommendations.
    • Build trusted working relationships with client Medical Affairs and cross-functional partners through responsiveness, preparation, strategic curiosity, and consistently high-quality work.
    • Anticipate questions, recognize risks and opportunities, and bring forward thoughtful solutions that strengthen client confidence in Woven’s Medical Communications team.
  • KOL and External Expert Engagement:
    • Support the planning, development, and execution of KOL engagement initiatives, including advisory boards, expert interviews, steering committees, faculty development, peer-to-peer education, and congress-related activities.
    • Build professional, scientifically credible relationships with KOLs and other external experts while maintaining appropriate boundaries and compliance standards.
    • Co-lead and moderate external advisory activities in partnership with clients.
    • Develop discussion guides, briefing materials, insight summaries, and recommendations that turn KOL perspectives into actionable strategic direction.
    • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure external-expert engagement is purposeful, respectful, compliant, and aligned to medical objectives.
  • Scientific Content and Program Development:
    • Lead or support development of accurate, compelling, and medically appropriate content across a range of medical communications deliverables, including scientific platforms, slide decks, training materials, advisory-board materials, congress assets, educational programs, publications-related materials, and digital experiences.
    • Conduct literature reviews, evidence assessments, and competitive analyses to support strategy and content development.
    • Partner with Medical Directors, Writers and Creative/Digital colleagues to ensure scientific accuracy is preserved while content is clear, engaging, and fit for audience and channel.
    • Assist with medical, legal, regulatory, and client review processes; help to proactively address feedback and protect scientific integrity throughout development.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Growth:
    • Collaborate effectively across Account, Strategy, Scientific, Creative, Digital, and Project Management disciplines to deliver cohesive, high-quality client solutions.
    • Help create an environment of scientific curiosity, continuous learning, accountability, and constructive collaboration.
    • Contribute to new-business initiatives, capability development, thought leadership, and internal knowledge sharing as opportunities arise.
    • Mentor junior team members informally by sharing medical knowledge, providing clear feedback, and modeling strong client-service behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree preferred, such as PharmD, PhD, MSN, MPH, MS, or a related life-sciences discipline.
  • Approximately 5-7 years of relevant experience in medical communications, Medical Affairs, pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, a healthcare agency, or a related scientific communications environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Medical Affairs strategy and medical communications programs for pharmaceutical or biotechnology clients.
  • Experience working with, supporting, or engaging KOLs, healthcare professionals, investigators, and/or other external scientific experts.
  • Strong grasp of the pharmaceutical product lifecycle and the distinction between Medical Affairs and promotional communications; working knowledge of applicable compliance principles and review processes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex scientific evidence into compelling, audience-appropriate narratives and presentations.
  • Demonstrated comfort presenting to clients and facilitating strategic discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong research, synthesis, problem-solving, and project-management skills, with close attention to scientific accuracy, details, timelines, and quality.
  • A collaborative, resourceful, and proactive working style; comfort operating in a fast-paced agency environment with multiple concurrent priorities.
