🌍 About the Company
Our client is a UK-based, global, multi-channel payment gateway and full-service Payment Service Provider offering local e-payment solutions for International Customer Not-Present businesses.
💼 About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on MLRO to own the company's compliance framework and run it day-to-day. As a Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), you will be responsible for the company's anti-money laundering framework and its relationship with the regulator. Alongside this, you will do much of the day-to-day compliance work yourself, including due diligence, screening review and transaction monitoring.
You will report to senior management and work as part of a small compliance team. You will also work closely with the company's account managers, Finance and IT colleagues.
🔍 Responsibilities:
Act as the company's MLRO / nominated officer, taking ownership of the AML and counter-terrorist financing framework;
Carry out KYC, customer due diligence and risk assessments for corporate clients, including higher-risk relationships;
Review PEP, sanctions and adverse media screening results, making decisions on escalated cases;
Perform transaction monitoring, investigate unusual activity and submit suspicious activity reports (SARs) to the National Crime Agency where required;
Draft, review and maintain compliance policies, procedures and controls in line with UK AML and FCA regulatory requirements;
Conduct and maintain the business-wide risk assessment and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance;
Manage communication with regulators, support external audits and regulatory reviews, and track remediation actions;
Prepare compliance reports and management information for senior management and the board;
Work closely with Account Management, Finance and IT teams on client onboarding, compliance systems and operational matters;
Provide compliance guidance and training to colleagues and respond to internal compliance queries.
🎓 Requirements:
Solid hands-on experience in compliance, preferably at least three years in financial services, payments or fintech;
Practical experience of KYC / customer due diligence and AML procedures, including transaction monitoring and screening;
Working knowledge of UK AML requirements and the FCA regulatory environment;
Experience drafting policies and procedures;
Experience of dealing with regulators, audits or regulatory reviews, or readiness to take this on;
Ability to work independently, take ownership of the compliance function and work closely with other teams;
Analytical and logical thinking with strong attention to detail;
Clear, professional communication and presentation skills;
Good organisational skills;
Fluent English and Russian (written and spoken).
⭐ Nice to Have:
Prior experience in e-commerce and electronic payments (a significant advantage);
Previous experience as an MLRO or Deputy MLRO;
A recognised AML or compliance qualification;
Proficiency in MS Office applications.
🤝 Key Competencies:
Strong ownership and independent decision-making;
Analytical thinking and attention to detail;
Strong regulatory awareness and risk management mindset;
Clear communication and stakeholder management skills;
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills;
Proactive and hands-on approach to compliance.
✨ The Employer offers:
The chance to build and shape the compliance function of a fast-moving payments business;
A varied, hands-on position combining MLRO responsibilities with day-to-day compliance work;
An international, friendly environment, working with colleagues in Europe and around the world.
If you have strong hands-on compliance experience, understand the UK regulatory environment and are ready to take ownership of the MLRO function within an international payments business, this role is a strong next step.
