Role Overview
SS&C Digital is seeking an experienced Mobile Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for the design, development and operation of secure, high-quality mobile applications built primarily with React Native.
You will lead the technical direction of cross-platform iOS and Android solutions used by customers, advisers and employers across SS&C’s financial-services businesses. You will combine hands-on development with architecture, engineering governance, mentoring and delivery leadership.
Working within multidisciplinary Agile teams, you will collaborate with product managers, designers, business analysts, mobile developers, quality engineers, backend teams, architects, security specialists and DevOps engineers. You will remain close to the code while ensuring that mobile solutions are secure, accessible, supportable and aligned with the wider SS&C Digital technology strategy.
What You Will Get To Do
Technical leadership
- Define and maintain the technical architecture for React Native applications across iOS and Android.
- Establish mobile engineering standards, reusable patterns and development guardrails.
- Provide technical direction to mobile developers and support teams in resolving complex engineering challenges.
- Lead technical design discussions and document significant architectural decisions.
- Evaluate technical options and explain their benefits, costs and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ensure mobile solutions integrate effectively with digital services, APIs, identity platforms and backend systems.
- Balance feature delivery with security, quality, performance and long-term maintainability.
- Identify and manage technical debt, platform risks and application-lifecycle concerns.
- Maintain alignment between mobile engineering, enterprise architecture and product strategy.
Engineering and delivery
- Contribute directly to React Native and TypeScript development, particularly for complex or strategically important changes.
- Review pull requests and provide constructive technical guidance.
- Ensure applications follow appropriate approaches to component design, state management, navigation, error handling and offline behaviour.
- Oversee integrations with REST and GraphQL APIs and native iOS or Android capabilities.
- Support backlog refinement, technical estimation and delivery planning.
- Work with delivery leadership to identify dependencies, risks and appropriate technical sequencing.
- Ensure technical changes are properly tested, documented and ready for production.
- Support releases to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
- Take technical ownership of major incidents and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure production feedback is incorporated into engineering priorities.
Security and compliance
- Embed secure-development practices appropriate to regulated financial services.
- Provide technical oversight of authentication, authorisation, biometrics, token management and secure device storage.
- Ensure applications appropriately protect personal and financial information.
- Apply relevant mobile security guidance, including OWASP MASVS and platform-specific recommendations.
- Work with security teams to address vulnerabilities, penetration-test findings and supply-chain risks.
- Ensure mobile dependencies are governed, monitored and updated appropriately.
- Support audit, risk and client-assurance activities by providing clear technical evidence.
Quality and operational excellence
- Define an effective mobile-testing strategy covering unit, component, integration, accessibility and end-to-end testing.
- Promote test automation using tools such as Jest, React Native Testing Library, Detox or Appium.
- Establish appropriate quality gates within continuous-integration and release pipelines.
- Ensure applications have suitable logging, analytics, monitoring and crash-reporting capabilities.
- Monitor application stability, performance, adoption and customer experience.
- Promote reliable release practices, including feature flags, phased rollout and rollback arrangements.
- Ensure mobile applications meet WCAG 2.2 AA and relevant native-platform accessibility expectations.
Leadership and collaboration
- Mentor React Native developers and support their technical development.
- Set clear engineering expectations and provide regular, constructive feedback.
- Create an environment that encourages collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate effectively with frontend, Java, Node, API, testing, architecture and platform-engineering teams.
- Build shared understanding between engineering, product, design and delivery stakeholders.
- Support recruitment, technical interviews and assessment of mobile-engineering capability.
- Contribute to the wider SS&C Digital engineering community and promote reusable solutions across products and verticals.
What You Will Bring
- Significant commercial experience developing production mobile applications using React Native.
- Previous experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Developer or Senior Mobile Engineer with technical-leadership responsibilities.
- Advanced knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript and React.
- Strong understanding of React Native architecture, components, hooks, navigation and state management.
- Experience delivering and supporting applications across both iOS and Android.
- Ability to diagnose complex mobile performance, memory, rendering and platform-specific issues.
- Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
- Strong understanding of mobile authentication, secure storage, encryption and session management.
- Experience with automated mobile testing and continuous-integration pipelines.
- Working knowledge of Xcode, Android Studio, CocoaPods and Gradle.

- Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, biometrics and multi-factor authentication.
- Familiarity with identity platforms such as Keycloak.
- Experience with certificate pinning, device-integrity controls and secure key management.
- Knowledge of mobile monitoring, analytics and crash-reporting platforms.
- Experience implementing feature flags, remote configuration and phased app releases.
- Familiarity with AWS-hosted platforms, containerised services and Kubernetes.
- Experience developing or governing a shared mobile design system.
- Knowledge of software supply-chain controls, dependency scanning and SBOM generation.
- Experience within investments, pensions, wealth management, banking or another regulated industry.
- Experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot within an enterprise environment.
Engineering Leadership Expectations
The successful candidate will:
- Remain technically hands-on while enabling other engineers to deliver effectively.
- Set direction without becoming a bottleneck or centralising every technical decision.
- Encourage teams to own quality, security and production operation alongside feature development.
- Make pragmatic decisions based on customer outcomes, risk and total cost of ownership.
- Challenge unclear requirements and designs constructively.
- Promote common standards while recognising when a product has a legitimate need for an exception.
- Use evidence—including application performance, incidents, defects and customer behaviour—to guide improvement.
- Ensure AI-assisted development increases productivity without weakening review, security or accountability.
- Communicate technical subjects clearly to senior leaders, clients and non-technical stakeholders.
Personal Attributes
- A collaborative and supportive technical leader.
- Customer-focused and committed to dependable digital experiences.
- Comfortable making decisions in a regulated and security-conscious environment.
- Pragmatic, accountable and delivery-oriented.
- Able to influence teams and stakeholders without relying solely on formal authority.
