Model-Based Systems Engineer – ARMY
Location: Hybrid (Washington, DC Metro Area)
Level: Lead / Senior Subject Matter Expert
Employment Type: Part-Time
Clearance: Secret
Montcure, LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) founded with a vision to revolutionize consulting and advisory services through innovative, data-driven solutions. The Montcure team recognizes the unique challenges faced by organizations and governments in today's rapidly evolving business environment.
About the Role
The Decision Analysis and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Lead provides senior technical leadership for an AI-enabled decision-support capability that helps defense engineering and acquisition organizations make faster, more defensible trade-study and program decisions. The Lead owns the analytical method behind every decision: the value model, the sensitivity method that shows exactly what would change a recommendation, integration with SysML v2 engineering models, and technical review of every decision package before it reaches a decision maker. This role suits a practitioner who has led real Army or DoD trade studies and wants to make decision analysis rigorous, reproducible and auditable at scale.
What You'll Do
Value Modeling & Flip-Point Method
- Design the value model using multi-attribute value theory and value-focused thinking, with criteria weights elicited before options are scored to reduce anchoring.
- Develop and maintain the flip-point method: for every weight, score, range, assumption and constraint, compute the break-even value at which the leading option changes.
- Define the structure of a decision model, including objectives, options, criteria, constraints, assumptions, risks and bias checks, each with an owner, a pass/fail test and a review date.
- Codify cognitive-bias checks (e.g., anchoring, confirmation, status quo, overconfidence, sunk cost, groupthink, optimism) as testable criteria and set the readiness thresholds a decision must meet before sign-off.
- Specify the questions and checks that AI agents use to elicit and validate decision models, ensuring AI supports the analysis but never computes the decision.
SysML v2 & MBSE Integration
- Lead integration of SysML v2 models through the Systems Modeling API, with UML/XMI as a fallback for legacy models.
- Design the ground-vehicle domain ontology and knowledge graph (RDF/OWL with SHACL validation) that supplies controlled terms and relationships to the analysis.
- Map requirements, parameters and constraints from engineering models to decision-model elements so every decision stays traceable to the engineering baseline.
- Define how decision results flow back to MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo) and to product lifecycle management and enterprise systems.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Decision Analysis, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience leading Army or DoD trade studies, Analyses of Alternatives (AoA), or milestone decision support.
- Demonstrated hands-on MBSE experience with SysML in a tool such as Cameo or Capella.
- Expert-level knowledge of multi-criteria decision analysis, including value modeling, weight elicitation and sensitivity analysis.
- Strong technical writing and briefing skills, with the ability to defend a method and its results to senior leadership.
- Relevant certification in AI, Systems engineering or software development.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of defense systems engineering or decision-analysis experience, including ground-vehicle programs.
- Experience with SysML v2 and the Systems Modeling API.
- Experience with knowledge graphs and semantic modeling (RDF, OWL, SHACL).
- Experience with decision-analysis software or building decision-support tools; familiarity with AI/LLM-enabled workflows.
- Familiarity with the DoD AI Ethical Principles and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
- INCOSE CSEP or ESEP certification; active Secret clearance.
