Compassion & Choices is seeking a Movement Manager to lead and coordinate our work within an assigned territory. The Movement Manager reports to the volunteer program principal director and serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers, community leaders, partners, and local stakeholders. Working in partnership with the Volunteer Activation Team, the Movement Manager advances organizational priorities through volunteer engagement, legislative and policy advocacy, community education, professional outreach, strategic partnerships, and philanthropic engagement. This work spans end-of-life issues, including medical aid in dying, dementia, serious illness, and advance care planning, with fully informed, patient-directed care as the guiding principle. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, the Movement Manager translates national priorities into coordinated local action. Territorial assignments may shift or expand based on organizational priorities.
This is a full-time, remote position. The starting salary range is $80,000–$95,000 annually. The final salary offered will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and organizational considerations.
We offer excellent benefits, including employer-shared medical and dental insurance premiums; employer-paid short- and long-term disability, life, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance; flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care; a commuter pre-tax benefit; eligibility to participate in a 401(k) with a generous 5% employer match and immediate vesting upon eligibility; paid holidays; paid time off; and personal days.
This position will primarily be responsible for:
- Leading the development and implementation of an integrated territorial work plan that aligns volunteer activation, advocacy, community education, partnerships, and philanthropic engagement with organizational priorities.
- Serving as the primary local contact for volunteers, community leaders, professionals, and partners, building trusted relationships and connecting stakeholders with organizational resources and expertise.
- Partnering with the Volunteer Activation Team and Volunteer Infrastructure Team to recruit, onboard, train, and engage a diverse volunteer network, matching volunteers’ interests, skills, lived experiences, and availability with meaningful opportunities.
- Coaching and mentoring volunteers to lead education, advocacy, and outreach initiatives, with clear pathways for expanded leadership and community representation.
- Developing volunteer leadership by cultivating emerging leaders, promoting shared leadership, and establishing succession plans that preserve institutional knowledge, community relationships, and momentum.
- Preparing and activating volunteers for legislative meetings, community events, and professional outreach through coordinated assignments, briefings, and educational materials.
- Coordinating territorial legislative and policy activities across all end-of-life issues in alignment with Policy/Legal strategy, in collaboration with lobbyists, contractors, coalition partners, and volunteers.
- Partnering with Philanthropy to identify and cultivate prospective supporters, strengthen donor relationships, and connect local impact with opportunities for philanthropic investment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Building community partnerships with coalitions, healthcare institutions, faith communities, and other trusted organizations to expand participation, access, and local impact.
- Leading education and professional outreach by building relationships with healthcare professionals and community organizations and connecting audiences with accurate information and practical tools.
- Representing Compassion & Choices at community meetings, coalition convenings, trainings, and professional events, and participating in media opportunities when designated, in coordination with communications colleagues.
- Using volunteer and partner feedback to identify emerging community needs and share insights that inform program improvements, volunteer strategies, and organizational planning.
- Supporting organization-wide efforts as requested, including fundraising activities, reporting, and participation in staff gatherings such as the organizational retreat.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
The Movement Manager provides functional leadership, coaching, and strategic guidance to volunteers, emerging volunteer leaders, grassroots advocates, coalition partners, contract lobbyists, and external stakeholders, and coordinates cross-functional teams and territorial initiatives without formal supervisory authority.
