The Opportunity

As a Member of the Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) Engineering Operations team, you will work at the intersection of software development, customer experience, and sustaining engineering. You will help diagnose and resolve complex issues across a distributed, cloud-native platform while partnering with Support, Product Engineering, and customers to deliver timely, high-quality outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging problems that span the breadth of NC2—from deployment and lifecycle management to service reliability, scalability, networking, and integrations. You will build deep product expertise, improve the diagnosability and serviceability of the platform, and contribute code, automation, and durable fixes that make NC2 easier to operate and support. If you enjoy solving ambiguous technical problems, understanding systems end to end, and turning customer pain points into engineering improvements, we encourage you to apply.

Engineering / R&D at Nutanix

Nutanix R&D builds infrastructure and cloud software that helps organizations run applications across private, public, and hybrid environments. The NC2 Engineering Operations team extends the software development organization by addressing difficult field issues at the code and system level, accelerating root-cause analysis, and improving the overall customer experience.

NC2 Operations engineers work closely with software development, quality engineering, documentation, product management, Support, and other engineering teams. The team combines strong debugging and problem-solving skills with disciplined software engineering to deliver fixes, tools, and improvements that are reliable, maintainable, and valuable to customers.

Your Role

  • Work as part of the extended software development team to investigate, fix, and prevent software defects and customer-impacting issues.

  • Maintain and improve cloud infrastructure supporting NC2 services, with a focus on reliability, scalability, security, performance, and operational readiness.

  • Own or contribute to the resolution of escalated customer and production issues, partnering with Support and other engineering teams as needed.

  • Diagnose complex problems across distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, networking, storage, compute, and platform services.

  • Perform deep troubleshooting of NC2 deployment, provisioning, upgrades, lifecycle operations, migrations, scalability, availability, and networking.

  • Reproduce customer issues, isolate root causes, and deliver workarounds, corrective actions, and production-quality fixes.

  • Develop automation, diagnostic utilities, and serviceability tools that improve observability, debuggability, and operational efficiency.

  • Analyze logs, metrics, traces, system behavior, and code to identify bottlenecks and failure modes.

  • Collaborate with development and quality engineering teams to improve test coverage, release quality, reliability, and field readiness.

  • Contribute to design discussions and make sound engineering tradeoffs for maintainability, performance, resilience, and customer impact.

  • Build expertise across NC2 and related Nutanix technologies, including Kubernetes, containerized services, virtualization, networking, storage, identity, and management-plane components.

  • Document technical findings, root-cause analyses, known issues, and operational guidance for internal teams and customers.

  • Participate in reviews, incident follow-ups, and continuous-improvement initiatives in a fast-paced engineering environment.

  • Program in a Linux environment and apply robust software engineering practices to develop and maintain reliable, field-serviceable software.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 2–4 years of relevant industry experience; or a Master’s degree with 1–2 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Strong programming experience in languages such as Python.

  • Demonstrated ability to debug and troubleshoot complex software systems using code, logs, metrics, and traces.

  • Hands-on experience with Splunk for log analysis, search and correlation, dashboard creation, alerting, incident investigation, and root-cause analysis.

  • Solid understanding of Linux/Unix environments, operating-system concepts, networking, and distributed systems.

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS and Azure networking, including VPCs/VNets, subnets, route tables, security groups, network security groups, network ACLs, load balancers, DNS, private endpoints, peering, VPNs, and connectivity troubleshooting.

  • Experience developing or supporting enterprise software, cloud platforms, infrastructure services, or highly available systems across AWS and Azure.

  • Experience troubleshooting end-to-end cloud connectivity and infrastructure issues across compute, Kubernetes, networking, identity, storage, and platform services.

  • Experience with managed Kubernetes services such as AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS),

  • Understanding of virtualization technologies such as KVM, VMware, Hyper-V.

  • Familiarity with distributed data management and the design tradeoffs involved in building clustered, high-performance, and fault-tolerant systems.

  • Experience building automation, diagnostic tooling, or operational utilities is a plus.

  • Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively during high-priority or ambiguous situations.

  • Ownership, curiosity, and a willingness to learn across multiple components of a complex product.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and contribute as a dependable team player.

Why Join NC2 Engineering Operations?

  • Solve technically challenging problems that have a direct impact on customer success.

  • Gain broad and deep experience across cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, Kubernetes, virtualization, networking, observability, and Nutanix technologies.

  • Influence product quality and serviceability by turning field learnings into engineering improvements.

  • Work with talented, collaborative teams across R&D, Support, Quality Engineering, Product Management, and Documentation.
