Food Systems CollectiveDigital Media & Multimedia Intern — FSC Special Projects
Food Systems Collective (FSC)
Unpaid internship | Remote / Flexible | International
About the opportunity
Food Systems Collective (FSC) is seeking a creative, curious and digitally capable Digital Media & Multimedia Intern to help develop and manage a portfolio of emerging media, education, science, travel, aviation and technology projects. This is not a conventional social media internship. You will have the opportunity to work across video, YouTube, social media, digital storytelling, AI-generated media, virtual influencers, content strategy and multimedia production, while helping build several distinctive projects from the ground up. FSC Special Projects provides a home for projects that sit outside FSC's core organisational activities and allows us to experiment with new ideas, audiences, technologies and digital media formats.
Depending on your interests and strengths, you may work primarily within one of two portfolios.
Portfolio 1: Travel, Aviation & Digital Storytelling
This portfolio brings together four complementary digital media projects:
Wanderverse — a global travel and discovery media project exploring destinations, cultures, experiences, journeys and the world around us.
Infinity Journeys — a transport and journey-focused project exploring the experience of moving by aircraft, train, ferry, road and other forms of transport.
Plane Spotters Central — a commercial aviation media channel focused on aircraft, airports, aviation economics and plane spotting.
Elara & Amara — an emerging virtual-influencer and AI storytelling project combining digital personalities, travel, lifestyle, STEM and visual storytelling.
You may be involved in:
- Creating and editing short-form video
- Developing YouTube content
- Producing Reels, Shorts and other social video
- Developing thumbnails, graphics and other digital assets
- Writing captions, titles and descriptions
- Developing content calendars
- Repurposing existing content across multiple platforms
- Using AI tools for image, video and creative content
- Developing stories and digital personalities
- Monitoring audience engagement and analytics
- Exploring new formats, platforms and content strategies
This portfolio would suit someone with an interest in digital media, multimedia, film/video, communications, journalism, marketing, tourism, social media or content creation.
Portfolio 2: Science, Nature & Food Computing Media
This portfolio combines science communication, nature, technology and educational media.
Button Botany — a botany and horticulture-focused digital project exploring plants, gardens, botanical discovery and the natural world.
Food Computing Academy (FCA) — FSC's education and training initiative focused on food computing, artificial intelligence, data science, digital transformation, computational approaches to food science and related technologies.
The FCA component will include establishing and developing an FCA YouTube channel, alongside its existing digital and social-media presence.
You may be involved in:
- Developing and producing educational YouTube videos
- Creating YouTube Shorts and other short-form content
- Turning technical concepts into accessible visual content
- Researching topics for videos and social posts
- Developing infographics and educational graphics
- Editing video and audio
- Creating thumbnails and other visual assets
- Managing content calendars
- Repurposing YouTube content for LinkedIn, Instagram and other platforms
- Using AI tools to support content development and production
- Tracking content performance and audience engagement
- Exploring ways to build FCA's online educational community
This portfolio would particularly suit someone studying or interested in food science/technology, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, biology, biotechnology, botany, horticulture, agricultural science, environmental science or science communication.
You do not need to have a background in all of these areas. Curiosity and the ability to communicate ideas clearly are more important.
What we're looking for
We are interested in people who want to make things, not simply schedule posts.
You don't need to be an expert in every platform or software package. We are looking for someone who is curious, willing to experiment and capable of learning quickly.

We are particularly interested in people who are:
Creative — you enjoy turning ideas into something people can see, hear or experience.
Curious — you're interested in learning about subjects outside your immediate field.
Self-directed — you can take an idea and work out how to turn it into content.
Experiment-oriented — you're comfortable trying new platforms, formats and AI tools.
