Salary Range: $70,000.00 To $90,000.00 Annually
Purpose: The Municipal Business Officer (MBO) is responsible for managing and servicing a portfolio of municipal clients. In addition to being the primary point of contact and trusted financial advisor for the client, the MBO is accountable for prospecting new business with state, counties, towns, villages, cities, school districts, utilities, and other quasi-public entities while retaining and deepening existing relationships. The Municipal Business Officer is also asked to sell and service the CDARS/ICS concept / products to the municipalities to increase our relationships overall.
Essential Functions:
- Visits new and existing municipal customers on a continuous basis, determining and recommending products/services to address client needs. In addition, identify and attend appropriate conferences, preparing and structuring proposals, and actively bidding on municipal opportunities
- Work closely with branch personnel by providing mentoring and coaching on a regular basis to ensure sales and customer service standards are being met or exceeded
- Keeps apprised of Bank products/services to ensure appropriate recommendations are made for both municipal customers and municipal employees.
- Keeps apprised of changes to regulations governing the municipal deposit and municipal bond business and makes recommendations of modifications required to Management.
- Assists in the pricing of bids on local municipal debt obligations, gathering financial data to perform credit review, and attend debt closing activities.
- Makes recommendations to price services (i.e. lockbox) accordingly to make relationship profitable and maximize Bank net income.
- Makes recommendations to Management regarding the proper sizing of municipal deposit account base.
- Provide technical support and training to municipal customers related to Digital Banking, Cash Management services, & Lockbox as well as provide cash management assistance and advice to retail branches to promote a cash management sales environment.
- Work on the annual budget with the team when asked.
- Cross-selling opportunities to meet additional customer needs by working with channel partners to deliver other products or services.
- Keep a strong communication within the team and provide support to other MBO’s relationships as needed.
- Open new accounts and service existing ones for municipal and reciprocal deposit relationships to reduce branch traffic.
- Stay apprised on current market rates and have an in-depth knowledge of customers to allow for deposit rate offers that facilitate the best profitability for the bank. In addition, network with Centers of Influence(COI) and provide guidance to municipal teammates on individual strategies and tactics to enhance the Bank’s municipal business development efforts.
- Demonstrate operational excellence in identifying issues, finding solutions, and following through the process to resolution. Including preparing collateral agreements, actively reviewing balances to ensure collateral needs are met. In addition, prepare and execute agreements related to digital banking, cash management services, and Lockbox.
- Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal and external customers, associates, and stakeholders. Incorporate the high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example, and service in every facet of work.
Job Related Qualifications:
Required:
- Education: High School Diploma. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Prior Experience: 7+ years of Banking, Financial Services or business-related experience. 3+ years of experience with direct municipal Industry preferred
Competencies:
- Excellent sales skills with a customer focus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management
- Working knowledge of Bank product and service offerings (i.e. internet banking, ACH, Remote Deposit Capture
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet established deadlines
- Possess a high level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with the ability to learn and utilize new and existing banking software applications
