Natural Perils Senior Pricing Analyst

  • 12-month fixed term contract
  • Location Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane

Join our Consumer Insurance Pricing and Analytics team and help shape how natural peril risks are understood, modelled and priced.

As a Natural Perils Senior Pricing Analyst, you will develop and implement address-level natural peril pricing models while establishing the infrastructure and monitoring processes needed to assess their effectiveness. This is an opportunity to combine data science, environmental research and insurance insights to influence pricing decisions and support fair, sustainable outcomes for customers.

Reporting to the Natural Perils Pricing Scientific Specialist, you will work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to turn complex risk information into practical analysis and recommendations.

What you’ll do

  • Build, blend and implement address-level and catastrophe pricing models for natural perils, including cyclone, bushfire, earthquake, flood, hail and storm.
  • Consider related factors such as demand surge and underinsurance within natural peril modelling.
  • Combine data science, environmental scientific research, insurance claims experience and external expertise to develop robust pricing models.
  • Establish monitoring processes and formally track the effectiveness of pricing changes.
  • Analyse how pricing changes may affect premiums, new business, renewals, lapse and cancellation rates, concentration risk and reinsurance.
  • Engage with teams across the business to share pricing knowledge and provide insights into natural peril risk and claims experience.
  • Develop portfolio impact analyses, business cases and recommendations for key stakeholders.
  • Break complex analytical problems into clear, practical components and solutions.
  • Manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.

About you

You are a highly analytical professional who enjoys solving complex problems and translating technical findings into meaningful business insights. You communicate clearly, build constructive working relationships and are motivated to continually improve how work is performed.

You will bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in an analytical discipline such as Finance, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Engineering or Actuarial Studies, which is advantageous.
  • At least three years’ experience in an insurance analytics role or a similar analytical environment.
  • A strong academic track record.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Basic exposure to programming and analytical tools such as SAS, Python, R and Excel, as well as relational databases.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project and time-management skills.
  • The ability to simplify complex problems and communicate their implications clearly.
  • A commitment to building positive, constructive relationships with stakeholders.
