About the role

Our Technology teams play a central role in keeping HL's technology services secure, resilient and available for our clients and colleagues. As part of the Network Engineering team, you will be responsible for the operation, support and continual improvement of our enterprise network.

Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, you will take ownership of network and security incidents, problems, changes and service requests, ensuring issues are investigated thoroughly and resolved within agreed service levels.

You will have hands-on responsibility for HPE Aruba Wi-Fi, Zscaler ZIA and ZPA, and Check Point Firewalls, as well as supporting the ongoing patching, upgrades and maintenance of these critical platforms.

What you’ll be doing


  • Taking ownership of incidents from initial investigation through to resolution, ensuring appropriate communication and documentation throughout.
  • Investigating recurring and complex issues and performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as part of the Problem Management process.
  • Planning, raising and implementing network changes through the organisation's formal Change Management process.
  • Planning and delivering regular patching, firmware updates and software upgrades across network infrastructure.
  • Reviewing vendor security advisories and identifying required patches, upgrades and vulnerability remediation activities.
  • Supporting the maintenance and upgrade of HPE Aruba wireless infrastructure, including troubleshooting wireless connectivity, authentication, performance and availability issues.
  • Supporting and administering Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA), including policy changes, application access, authentication and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Supporting and administering Check Point Firewalls, including firewall policies, rules, NAT, objects, logging and troubleshooting.
  • Maintaining accurate technical documentation, network diagrams, configuration records and operational procedures.
  • Working collaboratively with Service Desk, Cyber Security, Systems Operations, Cloud and Application teams to deliver effective end-to-end solutions.
  • Supporting continual service improvement initiatives to increase network availability, security and performance.
  • Ensuring network and security platforms remain appropriately patched, supported and aligned with security and operational standards.



About you


  • Proven experience working as a Network Engineer, Network Security Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Strong hands-on experience supporting HPE Aruba Wi-Fi environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Zscaler ZIA and ZPA.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Check Point Firewalls.
  • Experience working within Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
  • Practical experience of network and security patching, firmware updates and upgrades.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues through to root cause.
  • Experience using network monitoring, logging and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, particularly during major incidents.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisation and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of security principles and the importance of maintaining secure and resilient network infrastructure.
  • Relevant industry certifications in areas such as Aruba and Zscaler, Check Point

Nice to have

  • Experience with Cisco Nexus switching.
  • Experience with VMware NSX.
  • Experience with F5 LTM

Working Schedule


This role is based in Bristol head office, BS2 0PS. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office 2 days a week.
