Working directly with the client's CIO, you will take full ownership of the institution's wireless, switching, firewall policies, and Azure networking estate . This role moves beyond simple break-fix maintenance to drive structured change control, meaningful monitoring, and meticulous documentation . You will pair closely with a dedicated security engineer on the same account to ensure a resilient, secure hybrid infrastructure . What you will do: Campus Infrastructure & Lifecycle Management Own and manage the campus LAN and wireless networks across roughly 30 buildings, including switching, VLANs, controllers, and access points . Drive capacity and lifecycle planning for switches and access points, delivering structured refresh cases the client can budget against . Generate and maintain current network diagrams and inventory, treating documentation as a continuous process rather than a future sprint . Edge Security & Cloud Networking Administer firewall rules and edge policies, reviewing them on a structured cycle with genuine change control practices . Manage the Azure networking environment, including virtual networks, peering, VPNs, and the hybrid path from the campus to the cloud . Observability & Operations Transform existing SNMP polling and Grafana dashboards into actionable monitoring by tuning thresholds to real failure modes . Partner with the CIO during an initial discovery quarter to capture and formalize undocumented network architecture . Tools & Technologies: Networking & Edge: Multi-building switching, controller-based wireless, and firewalls (Fortinet, Aruba, or Meraki platforms preferred) . Cloud Infrastructure: Azure virtual networks, VPN, and peering . Observability: SNMP, NetFlow, and monitoring stacks such as Grafana, Zabbix, or LibreNMS . Automation (Bonus): Infrastructure as code for network configuration (Ansible, Terraform) . What you bring: Experience: Five or more years in enterprise or campus networking, with proven experience managing multi-building environments at scale . Communication / Leadership: English fluency strong enough to explain complex design decisions to a non-technical CIO . Mindset: Diligent and ownership-driven. You treat documentation and structured change control as foundational elements of good engineering, and you do not rely on "console-and-hope" administration . Availability: Commitment to working standard US Central business hours . Bonus Qualifications: CCNP certification or equivalent technical depth; previous experience with higher education, public sector, or E-Rate-funded estates .
