Summary

Under general direction, the Network Engineer II performs maintenance, repairs, installs and support of all MCW LAN, WAN, VOIP, VPN, Internet, Wireless and related network hardware

and software.

Primary Responsibilities


* Work with the team resources to meet department goals, priorities, and initiatives.

* Complete tickets thoroughly and on a timely basis. Communicate with the service desk regarding all tickets and service requests as needed.

* Represent the network team with customers, peers, co-workers and partners. As directed, assist leadership with planning

* Assure standards are met for all assigned projects and service activities.

* Work to maintain performance, capacity and operations targets of the entire MCW network.

* Provide diligent network service including: installation, upgrade, basic security administration and basic troubleshooting for Cisco network systems.

* Provide daily network technical administration and support, including change management requests, and monitoring.

* Provide feedback for improvements and assist with automation and process improvement for the network team.

* Support the efficient and accurate use of systems utilization and monitoring data and develop strategies to provide improvements using that information.

* Troubleshoot basic and intermediate end user, desktop, server, and application errors related to the network.

* Advise coworkers, consultants, and users on basic and intermediate network operations and network security.

* Demonstrate initiative through expansion of: technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, business knowledge, and organizational skills.

* Maintain technical relevancy in networking technologies through education, reading and research.

* Work closely with service desk, server, operations and application support teams to meet day to day operational needs.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities


• Understanding of the fundamentals of networking such as: LAN, WAN, wireless and VOIP technologies.

• Written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills.

• Good analytical skills and the demonstrated ability to raise concerns and problems in a clear and concise fashion.

• A positive attitude, working effectively with cross-functional team resources including, but not limited to team lead, project manager, customers, engineers, System Administrators and members of

the leadership team.

• A goal-based orientation and a focus on results.

• A strong sense of responsibility

• At least four years of experience in networking technology

• Experience with network upgrades and installations of Cisco networking environments.

• Experience in most technical aspects of networking, including port configurations, basic troubleshooting for Cisco networks.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field

Minimum Required Experience: 2 years of experience in networking technology


Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.


Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
