Neuroimaging Data Scientist (fMRI) – Internship
TL;DR
Company Description
Hedonome is an applied neuro-AI research company focused on building machine learning systems that interpret brain signals and model how individual minds work. We transform neural and behavioral data into machine-readable representations and insights that can be used in real-world contexts. Our work spans brain signal analysis, personalized cognitive models, and affective and hedonic neuroscience, at the intersection of computational neuroscience, biotechnology and machine learning. We are committed to open, reproducible research, ensuring that knowledge about the mind is shared and verifiable. Hedonome is a pre-seed stage company based in Konya, Türkiye, backed by over $20K in non-dilutive compute and infrastructure support from multiple industry programs.
Role Description
We are building brain encoding models that predict how the human brain responds to video, audio and language, building on recent foundation models such as Meta's TRIBE v2. As our Neuroimaging Data Scientist intern, you will own the data foundation of this work. This is a hybrid internship, based in Konya with flexible remote work.
You will identify and evaluate open naturalistic fMRI datasets (such as Courtois NeuroMod, BOLD Moments, Lebel2023 and the Human Connectome Project), manage data access applications, and build reproducible pipelines for downloading, preprocessing and aligning brain recordings with their stimuli. You will also help design and validate in silico datasets: generating predicted brain responses with pretrained encoding models and testing them against real held-out recordings. You will document every step clearly, so that our results can be reproduced and verified by others.
This is an unpaid research internship. In return, you will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art brain encoding models and large-scale fMRI data, direct mentorship, access to our compute infrastructure, co-authorship credit on any resulting publications or open-source releases, and a reference letter upon completion. Students completing a compulsory internship are especially welcome.
Qualifications
* Experience with Python and scientific data libraries (e.g., NumPy, pandas); familiarity with PyTorch is a plus.
* Familiarity with fMRI or other neuroimaging data, or a strong motivation to learn it quickly.
* Experience with neuroimaging tools such as nilearn, fMRIPrep, MNE-Python or BIDS-formatted datasets is a strong plus.
* Ability to work with large datasets: storage, version control and reproducible pipelines.
* Comfort reading academic papers and translating methods into working code.
* A background in computational neuroscience, cognitive science, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, computer science or a related field is beneficial, but a degree is not required. Current students and self-taught candidates are welcome to apply.
* Ability to work independently in a hybrid setting, with rigorous standards of reproducibility and data ethics.
Important Notes
* We are currently only accepting applications from candidates based in Türkiye. Applications from outside Türkiye will not be considered at this time.
* Interns who perform strongly may be considered for a full-time position after the internship. Full-time roles are based on-site in Konya, so candidates should be open to relocating to Konya for a potential full-time position.
