It resides in the New Product Planning (NPP) team and acts as a strategic partner to Medical Affairs, serving as a bridge between medical, R&D and commercial functions . Position Overview We are seeking a strategic and scientifically grounded Medical Expert to join the New Product Planning (NPP) team. This role focuses on driving early-stage commercial assessments of pipeline assets from a medical and strategic perspective , helping shape the path from early development through to brand team handover. Working at the intersection of commercial strategy and scientific insight, this role is critical in maximizing asset value by evaluating unmet needs, supporting clinical development strategies, and contributing to the long-term positioning of future therapies in the Japanese market. Key Responsibilities Disease & Market Analysis Analyze disease landscapes to identify unmet medical needs in Japan Conduct literature reviews, guideline analyses, and secondary research Perform quantitative market analysis using syndicated data (e.g., epidemiology, treatment flow, etc.) Consolidate insights from internal stakeholders, including Medical Affairs and field-based teams Target Product Profile (TPP) Evaluation Review global TPPs against Japanese treatment standards and regulatory expectations Identify and document gaps or misalignments in clinical relevance or strategy Provide medical assessments aligned with Japan-specific market realities Asset Evaluation & Scenario Planning Compare development assets against standards of care and pipeline competition Produce clinical impact assessments and internal strategic reports Conduct scenario modeling to evaluate treatment paradigm shifts Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., R&D, regulatory, Medical Affairs) Medical Evidence Planning Identify clinical and real-world evidence gaps relevant to Japan Propose and prioritize data generation opportunities with internal teams Support early strategy development for locally relevant medical evidence Requirements Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with cross-functional collaboration experience involving commercial teams Advanced degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, or Life Sciences (Master’s or PhD preferred) Strong understanding of medical evidence evaluation and generation Proven experience working with both local (Japan) and global teams Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English (business-level fluency) Preferred Qualifications Experience in early clinical development or new product planning Deep understanding of disease mechanisms, clinical endpoints, and treatment paradigms Familiarity with regulatory and clinical nuances in the Japanese healthcare system Benefits Benefits & Work Style Flexible Hybrid Work Model: Remote work is supported Opportunity to work at a strategic level with visibility into both global and local product development Cross-functional exposure across medical, commercial, and R&D teams Professional development in new product strategy, market shaping, and early asset planning
