Work Environment: Office environment Grant End Date: 09/30/2028 (with possibility of extension) Created Date: 8/17/2026 Revised Date: 8/17/2026 Salary: $50,000 annually FLSA Classification: Non- Exempt Who We Are: The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City. About The Role: The Bureau of Maternal, Infant and Reproductive Health is seeking a Hub Navigator for its Abortion Access Hub to provide referrals on where and how to obtain an abortion in New York State. Navigators will conduct brief interviews with callers and chatters to the Hub to find out their abortion needs based on type of abortion, preferred location, date/time availability, and insurance; do a needs assessment on whether they require additional funding and/or support to access care (such as transportation, child care, housing, etc.); and provide a warm handoff to a provider based on identified needs. About the Program: After the Supreme Court eliminated federal protections for abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the NYC Health Department launched a series of programs designed to protect and promote abortion access in New York City, including the Abortion Access Hub, which opened on November 1, 2022. The Hub is the first centralized, municipally funded navigation and referral helpline for people coming from anywhere seeking abortion information and care in New York City. We are expanding the Hub’s referral network to include abortion providers in the rest of New York State to create a statewide referral, Hub. Responsibilities: · Respond to telephone calls and online chats from people who request information or referral to abortion services and to complete brief scripted interviews and needs assessments including the following: a. Find out their abortion needs based on type of abortion, preferred location, date/time availability, and insurance. b. Do a needs assessment on whether they require additional funding and/or support to access care (such as transportation, childcare, housing, etc.). c. Provide warm handoff to a provider depending on identified needs. · Reinforce messages that abortion is safe, legal, and available in New York. · Based on assessments, connect callers and chatters to abortion care providers, abortion care navigators, financial assistance resources, and other resources using approved resource list. · Communicate in a professional and empathetic manner. · Collect and record information into the data system. · Follow approved scripts and protocols. · Maintain daily communication with their supervisor as assigned. · Receive telephone consent for warm handoff to other organizations offering services. · Protect and maintain individuals’ privacy and confidentiality. · Other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/organization. Requirements: · Health-related professional experience or public health training. · Ability to demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and work ethic. · Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities. · Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds during a time of crisis and distress. · Have a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.). · Ability to show empathy and be nonjudgmental towards distressed individuals · Excellent organizational skills. · Critical thinking and sound judgment. · Experience navigating computer systems and ability to comply with data integrity and security policies, safeguarding all personal identifiable information. · Ability to speak, read, and write English. · Strong preference for Spanish-speaking proficiency. · Candidates of highly impacted communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
