Habitat for Humanity Australia | Voluntary Position | Sydney/Remote
Habitat for Humanity Australia is seeking a Non-Executive Director with strong financial expertise to join our Board and chair the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee.
HFHA is part of a global not-for-profit network that has supported more than 62 million people to build or improve the place they call home. Locally and across the Asia-Pacific region, we work to deliver practical shelter solutions with lasting impact, guided by our values of humility, accountability, courage and kindness.
Following a recent Board skills review, we've identified a need for a director who can bring rigorous financial oversight to the table. In this role, you'll chair our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, provide independent scrutiny of our financial statements and funding models, and work closely with our CEO and fellow directors to guide the organisation's strategic direction.
What we're looking for:
A current CPA or CA qualification, or prior experience as CFO of a commercial organisation, along with the ability to read and critically assess financial statements, budgets and audit reports. You'll need a genuine commitment to HFHA's mission and a solid understanding of governance principles and NFP director responsibilities in Australia. Previous board or committee chair experience, particularly in the NFP or charity sector, is highly regarded, as is experience overseeing statutory audits or familiarity with the affordable housing or international development space.
Time commitment:
Board meetings are held bi-monthly on Monday afternoons, typically hybrid between our Sydney office and Teams. You'll also chair bi-monthly Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meetings and attend the AGM. All up, expect around 10 to 15 hours a month to prepare for and attend meetings.
This is a voluntary position, with out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed in line with our policy.
If you're looking to put your financial expertise to work for an organisation building homes, communities and hope, we'd love to hear from you.
