Job Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill up to 10 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Tutors for the School of Nuclear Science & Engineering (NSE) at Oregon State University (OSU). Tutors are hired on an as-needed basis depending on term courses.
This position performs a variety of duties in support of NSE tutoring, including providing regular assistance to undergraduate students. Responsibilities include preparing for tutoring sessions, upholding academic integrity, and documenting hours and feedback in coordination with program supervisors.
Position Duties
- Provide regular one-on-one or small-group tutoring. Meet with students on a scheduled or drop-in basis to help them understand course concepts and work through problems.

- Prepare for sessions in advance. Review relevant course materials, assignments, and syllabi to give accurate, useful guidance as well as anticipate common areas of difficulty.
- Promote independent learning. Guide students to develop their own study strategies and problem-solving approaches

- Document sessions and communicate with supervisors. Keep accurate records of hours and students served, submit timesheets by deadlines, and raise concerns about student progress or tutoring challenges with the Head Advisor.

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Required
- Major or minor in Nuclear Science & Engineering
- 3.0 or higher GPA for OSU coursework
Preferred
- Previous experience as Tutor or Undergraduate Learning Assistant
- Second year student or higher
