Risk Specialist

Help build and embed a world-class risk and critical control framework.

This role is based in flexible for location (hybrid office and work from home), with travel to remote mine sites.

We’re seeking a Risk Specialist to support the uplift and embedding of a risk and critical control framework across mining operations. This role is ideal for someone with operational experience, a sharp eye for detail who enjoys working with data, documentation and operational teams to turn critical controls into work that is planned, executed and verified in the field.

About the role

Working alongside our Senior Risk Specialist, you'll help identify material risks and draft bowties, map the evidence needed to execute and verify critical controls, align site documentation with Critical Control Performance Standards (CCPS), and prepare the SAP data and resource-based schedules that build those controls into the site's work management system. This is a hands-on role with genuine exposure to how a critical control framework is designed, built and embedded, and a clear pathway to grow your technical capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare materials for, co-facilitate and accurately record material risk and bowtie workshops.
  • Draft bowties capturing technical, human and organisational causes and consequences.
  • Review and update work instructions, procedures, JHAs, permits and TARPs to align with the CCPS.
  • Map the evidence required for critical control execution (CCE) and verification (CCV).
  • Prepare SAP data, including resources, work centres, functional locations and execution and verification frequencies.
  • Build resource-based schedules showing the operational load of each control on site personnel.
  • Review and map legacy risks to new material unwanted events and controls, and maintain risk register data quality.
  • Prepare data analysis and draft reports on trends, control failures and control health for the Risk Audit Committee.

About you

  • At least three years' experience in risk management, critical control management, HSE, maintenance planning or operational roles in mining or heavy industry.
  • Working knowledge of the bowtie method and critical control concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and confidence working with spreadsheets and data.
  • Clear written communication, including writing and reviewing procedures and work instructions.
  • Ability to engage confidently with operational and field teams.
  • A current driver's licence and the ability to travel to remote sites (FIFO/DIDO) and meet fitness-for-work requirements.
  • Exposure to SAP Plant Maintenance or similar enterprise systems, and document management systems (advantageous).
  • A tertiary qualification in engineering, science, OHS or a related discipline, and knowledge of AS ISO 31000:2018 (advantageous).

Benefits

  • Hands-on involvement in a major risk uplift program with long-term operational impact.
  • Coaching and development from Senior, Principal and Director-level specialists.
  • A collaborative environment focused on practical, field-ready risk management.
  • Hybrid office and work-from-home arrangement.
  • Competitive remuneration and site-based benefits.

Ready for the Next Step?

If you’re passionate about strengthening critical controls, building your risk capability and supporting safer operations, we’d love to hear from you.
