Job type: Full-time employee
Location: Hybrid, downtown Jersey City, NJ (typically 2 to 3 days onsite, flexible based on operational needs)
Reports to: VP of Global Operations
Salary range: $65,000 to $75,000 per year
Spare-it is a fast-growing clean-tech SaaS and IoT company that helps organizations measure, report, and reduce in-building waste. Our smart scales, software, and sustainability expertise give enterprise customers the data they need to take the first critical step in their waste reduction journeys. Our mission is to accelerate circularity through data.
Headquartered in Boston with operations across North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, Spare-it was founded by two French senior executives, Laurent Canneva and Laurent Meunier. We are a passionate, hardworking team with a strong commitment to transparency and work-life balance.
We're looking for an Operations Manager to own the operational health of our US deployments from our Jersey City hub. This is a largely digital role built around data: you will use our dashboards to keep customer data accurate and our devices healthy, and use AI tools like Claude to turn what you find into clear action plans. You'll also own and improve the operations processes and systems behind it. The role has a hands-on side too, working with scales, hardware, and digital signage devices, and managing shipments and inventory.
You'll step into an established set of dashboards and processes and have the room to make them your own.
Data quality and insight
- Monitor customer data and device health through our dashboards, and keep data accurate through regular review and cleanup.
- Spot issues early, escalate root causes to R&D, and see fixes through to resolution.
- Use Claude and other AI tools to analyze data and develop clear action plans for operations and field work.
- Report on the health of US deployments and help define the KPIs that matter.
- Oversee the performance of deployed scales and connected hardware, including evaluating and connecting scales and troubleshooting problems.
- Set up, configure, and manage digital signage devices and their content for customer sites.
- Support new customer deployments and ongoing maintenance, including occasional local site visits.
- Own, document, and continuously improve operations processes, workflows, and the tools that support them.
- Identify bottlenecks and recommend or implement better systems and automation.
- Manage tickets and operational follow-up in HubSpot.
- Manage hardware inventory, receiving, and domestic and international shipments.
- Prepare equipment for deployment.
- Coordinate interns and third-party contractors, and support Sales, Customer Success, and R&D.
- Detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working with large data sets.
- Curious about AI and eager to use tools like Claude to work faster and make better decisions.
- Technically capable: comfortable with dashboards, spreadsheets, web platforms, and connecting to and troubleshooting IoT devices.
- Comfortable setting up and managing devices such as tablets and displays, including remote device management tools.
- Organized and able to manage multiple priorities and vendors in a startup setting.
- A clear written and verbal communicator.
- Motivated by sustainability and Spare-it's mission.
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3+ years of experience in operations, data analysis, logistics, or a related field.
- Proficiency with at least one data visualization platform (AWS QuickSight, Tableau, Looker, or similar).
- Strong skills in Google Workspace and Excel.
- Experience with a CRM or ticketing system (HubSpot a plus).
- Experience with operations or workflow tools (Airtable, Asana, Smartsheet, or similar) is a plus.
- Experience with device setup or management (mobile device management, digital signage, or IoT hardware) is a plus.
- Able to lift and move up to 75 pounds and handle shipping and receiving.
- Valid driver's license.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- LEED or TRUE certification is a plus.
- Occasional travel (up to 10 to 15%) for site visits.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) plan.
- Generous paid time off, increasing with tenure.
- Hybrid flexibility.
- Professional development support for credentials aligned with sustainability, waste, IoT, or SaaS.
- A purpose-driven, innovative team in the sustainability sector.
Spare-it is committed to diversity and inclusion. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.
