Description

The Operations Programmer fulfills survey programming and sample processing support responsibilities for KJT research projects, ensuring accurate instruments, clean data, analysis-ready data output, and on-time delivery. This role partners with Research, Project Management, Sampling Team and other Operations team members to interpret project specifications, program and debug web-based surveys, review questionnaires for sound survey logic and optimal data layout, perform quality control at every stage of programming, develop and document programming standards and best practices, and build internal scripts and automations that improve Operations efficiency. The Operations Programmer uses approved AI-enabled tools, including AI-assisted coding tools, to accelerate survey programming, scripting, and internal tool development, and validates every AI-assisted output against project specifications and source data before it advances, while maintaining confidentiality, KJT’s BRAIN framework, and ISO 27001-aligned data-security expectations.

Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties and projects may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide all programming and technical services needed in support of online questionnaire programming, including sample logistics set up and processing and survey programming for internal and client projects.
  • Interpret project needs and requirements, develop and debug web-based survey programs, and perform maintenance as needed throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Review survey questionnaires from a programming logic and data-structure perspective; flag issues and recommend changes that support efficient programming, accurate routing, and clean data output.
  • Process, format, and prepare sample files for survey deployment, including validation of required fields, ID’s, segmentation variables, and other project-specific sample requirements.
  • Produce and validate survey data exports from the survey platform, ensuring variables, response codes, and data structure are analysis-ready and correctly documented for the teams that carry the data forward.
  • Perform quality control checks at all levels of programming, including logic testing, data validation, and link testing, before instruments go live or data advances to reporting.
  • Collabroate with internal stakeholders and project teams on project specifications and timelines, advise on realistic schedules for survey programming and data output, and support the in-field needs of multiple concurrent projects by coordinating with Operations team members and contracted vendors to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Develop and document programming standards, reusable templates, and best practices with the VP, Research Operations; contribute to onboarding documentation and process improvements that make programming work more consistent and repeatable across projects.
  • Use approved AI-enabled tools to accelerate survey programming, scripting, testing, and documentation; validate every AI-assisted output against project specifications and source data for accuracy before instruments go live or data advances.
  • Use approved AI-assisted coding tools to build, test, and maintain internal scripts, automations, and tooling that improve Operations efficiency, quality, and turnaround; test and validate all AI-generated code before it is used in production workflows, and provide feedback on tool effectiveness and workflow fit while tool selection and standards sit with the VP, Research Operations and the SVP, Operations.
  • Follow KJT’s BRAIN framework, AI usage guidelines, confidentiality expectations, and data-security rules in every AI-enabled step; respondent PII, panel data, and client data must remain within approved, ISO 27001-vetted tools.
  • Escalate unclear specifications, programming risks, data-quality issues, timeline concerns, or AI-assisted output concerns promptly to the appropriate project stakeholders.
  • Develop AI-assisted programming and automation proficiency, including prompt skills, through daily work, feedback, approved tool use, and continual skill development.
  • Model self-leadership, ownership mentality, attention to detail, technical curiosity, adaptability, collaboration, continuous learning, and commitment to KJT’s values and Collective Win.

Requirements

Key Competencies for Success:

  • Survey programming and instrument development: Ability to program, debug, and maintain web-based survey instruments with sound logic, accurate specifications, and clean data output.
  • Survey data output and documentation: Ability to produce and validate survey data exports with correct variables, response codes, and structure, and to document them so downstream teams can carry the data forward without rework.
  • Quality control and technical accuracy: Ability to perform logic testing, data validation, and link testing at every stage of programming and catch errors before instruments go live or data advances.
  • Responsible AI-assisted programming: Ability to use approved AI-enabled and AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate programming, scripting, testing, and internal tooling while validating and testing outputs, protecting confidentiality, following BRAIN, and maintaining human accountability for every instrument and script that ships.
  • Internal tooling, automation, and standards: Ability to identify repetitive Operations work, build and test practical scripts and automations, and document programming standards and best practices that improve efficiency, quality, and turnaround.
  • Technical Risk Escalation: Ability to identify unclear specifications, programming risks, data-quality issues, timeline concerns, or AI-assisted output concerns and escalate them promptly with clear context.
  • Confidentiality and data-security discipline: Ability to protect respondent PII, panel data, and client data within approved, ISO 27001-vetted tools and follow KJT information-security requirements.
  • Communication and collaboration: Ability to translate project specifications into technical requirements and communicate timelines, risks, and technical trade-offs clearly with Research, Project Management, and Operations team members.
  • Self-leadership and ownership mentality: Demonstrates accountability, organization, attention to detail, technical curiosity, adaptability, problem solving, continuous learning, and commitment to KJT’s core values.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, economics, or a related discipline preferred; computer science coursework highly recommended.
  • 2+ years of survey programming experience, ideally in market research and preferably healthcare.
  • Experience programming and debugging web-based surveys on platforms such as Forsta, Decipher, Confirmit, Qualtrics, Sawtooth, or CMIX required.
  • Experience producing and validating survey data exports, data maps, or response-code documentation preferred.
  • Experience building scripts, automations, or internal tools to improve workflow efficiency preferred.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted coding tools, prompt engineering, API integrations, or Office automation preferred.

Information Security Management

The individual in this role is responsible for complying with the KJT Group Information Security Policy and all related policies, processes, and documentation related to information security.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with web programming languages, including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, and with a scripting language such as Python for data handling and automation.
  • Familiarity with survey programming platforms, survey data export formats, and version control.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; comfort with videoconferencing tools including Zoom and Teams.
  • Ability to use approved AI-enabled and AI-assisted coding tools responsibly for survey programming, scripting, testing, documentation, and internal tool development.
