Data Specialist

Dublin | Hybrid | 24-Month Contract


We are seeking an experienced Data Specialist to join a large public-sector organisation on an initial 24-month contract, with the potential to extend up to 48 months.


This is a highly technical role focused on identifying, documenting and addressing technical knowledge gaps across a complex data environment. The primary focus will be Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), with additional exposure to technologies including Azure, Synapse, Microsoft Fabric and Purview.


The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on technical expertise with the ability to analyse complex data environments, create clear technical documentation and effectively transfer knowledge across teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and document existing OBIEE and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) processes.
  • Conduct technical code reviews and data lineage analysis.
  • Map end-to-end source-to-target data flows.
  • Trace and document ETL transformations, dependencies and processes.
  • Develop technical runbooks, operational procedures and recovery documentation.
  • Capture technical knowledge from SMEs and contractors.
  • Lead knowledge-transfer workshops and technical walkthroughs.
  • Produce training materials and walkthrough videos.
  • Support incident resolution and operational continuity.
  • Identify technical knowledge gaps and single points of failure.
  • Recommend improvements to strengthen operational resilience.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge-base/Wiki content.
  • Produce system and process maps, recovery procedures and incident reports.


Essential Skills & Experience

Candidates must have:

  • 4–6+ years of relevant experience in data or related technical roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE).
  • Advanced PL/SQL skills.
  • Strong Python experience.
  • Experience working with complex data warehouse and ETL environments.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables.
  • Experience leading workstreams and/or mentoring colleagues.
  • Strong technical documentation and knowledge-transfer skills.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Fluent English.


Experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) would be particularly relevant to the role.

Contract Details

  • Location: Dublin 1
  • Start Date: 11 January 2027
  • Initial Contract: 24 months
  • Potential Duration: Up to 48 months
  • Working Arrangement: Predominantly remote/hybrid
  • Onsite Requirement: Occasional attendance in Dublin, for example quarterly team meetings
  • Working Pattern: Full-time, approximately 220 days per year


The Opportunity

This would suit an experienced Data Specialist who enjoys getting into the detail of complex data environments and understanding how systems, data flows and ETL processes work end-to-end.

It offers excellent long-term stability, with an initial two-year engagement and potential extensions, as well as the opportunity to work across both established Oracle technologies and a wider modern Microsoft data environment.


The key requirements are strong OBIEE, advanced PL/SQL and Python experience, combined with the ability to analyse existing systems, document them thoroughly and transfer technical knowledge effectively across a team.
