Classification + Hours: Exempt employee, full time Location: Remote Start date: ASAP Manager: Executive Director Manages: Data Director, Schools Manager, and Membership Director Travel: Frequent, likely 1-2 times per month for 5-15 days Union Eligibility: This position is not eligible to participate in Sunrise’s CWA Labor Union. Teams: Senior Leadership Team, Campaign Team, Program Coordination Team Compensation: $75,000-$95,000 annually depending on years of experience. In addition, Sunrise provides a special city allowance if hire resides in a metro/micro area . Benefits: Sunrise offers a benefits package with 100% paid premiums for health care, dental, and vision. Top 2 Skills re: Multiracial Cross Class Movement Building Facilitate a team across race and class, support a team to give and receive direct feedback and have strategic and interpersonal conflict across race, class, rank lines Design and implement organizing and absorption structures that will help us build a movement across race and class; including Black and Latine specific leadership development programs. One Sentence Purpose: The Organizing Director is responsible for leading Sunrise’s national organizing strategy to grow the membership base across race, class, and geography, while making sure that our volunteer leaders are skilled, politically aligned, and can take responsibility for winning federal governing power to win a Green New Deal. They oversee the organizing infrastructure, leadership development efforts and programs, membership strategy, and organizing staff. As part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Organizing Director will shape organizational priorities, and ensure Sunrise’s organizing strategy is aligned with our long term strategic goals and values. Responsibilities Personnel Management and Organizing Division Coordination Lead the growth and development of managees through consistent weekly management check ins, professional development planning and tracking, regular feedback, and individualized work plans. Ensure all organizing staff understand Sunrise’s theory of change, organizing model, long term strategy, and on how their work plays in achieving organizational goals. Lead cross team coordination across organizing programs to streamline our work effectively, efficiently, and strategically Own the annual program planning, evaluation, and adjusting of programs to most effectively scale throughout the year. Use data, integrate feedback, and adaptable models and strategies to strengthen our organizing. Manage the Growth and Development of Sunrise’s Base Ensure Sunrise hubs are organizing towards our long term strategy Manage volunteer leadership development by creating training and coaching programs in collaboration with other organizing staff. Training and coaching programs should equip leaders with the skills to lead in the following: direct action, strategic communications strategies, basebuilding skills, and identifying rapid response political opportunities. Partner with the Campaign Team to create campaigns and organizing arcs that align with Sunrise’s long term strategy while also strengthening membership growth, deepening volunteer engagement, and building organizational power. Partner with the Membership Director to strengthen Sunrise's democratic leadership structure of member leaders. Serve on the Senior Leadership Team Serve on the internal Senior Leadership team and support the team to manage and lead the organization, including budgeting, compliance, staff management, fundraising. Oversee the organizing budget Partner with SLT and the organizing team to develop and strategically plan programming and budgeting for the year. Serve as a representative of Sunrise to partner organizations as needed Qualifications Must Haves At least 5 years participating in local, state or national campaigns, including in multi-racial contexts At least 2 years in a leadership role in an organizing project Has lead teams and managed multiple streams of work at once Can line manage 3-4 people, at the supervisory level themselves, at a time A deep commitment to supporting and building progressive movements Nice To Haves Has operated in an organizing context of member democracy Has direct action or electoral experience Can represent Sunrise with electeds and press
