Job Description
Outbound Sales Representative
The Healthy Back Institute | Remote | Full-Time | Individual Contributor
$15.50 to $17.00 per hour · Reports to the VAS Team Lead · 2+ years outbound sales experience required
About Us
Since 2003, the Healthy Back Institute has helped millions of people reclaim their freedom from pain. We are a remote, direct-to-consumer health and wellness company built on six core values: Freedom, Love, Team, Growth, Excellence, and Courage.
Our Value Added Sales team is the voice customers hear when they call us, and the team that reaches out to bring former customers back. We are building that team deliberately, with a defined career track and published advancement criteria, and this role is where it starts.
The Role
This is a phone sales role in both directions. You will take inbound sales calls, make outbound calls to re-engage former customers, conduct post-purchase welcome calls, and book appointments for our certified Wellness Coaches.
Outbound is a core part of the job, not an occasional task. Cold calling is a skill we take seriously, and it is central to how this role contributes. If you enjoy that work, you will do well here, and you will be trained properly and shown exactly what it takes to move up.
This is the entry tier of a three-tier sales track. You will not carry a quota at this level. Instead, you will build product knowledge, sales skills, and a book of business. The criteria to advance to Wellness Advisor and then Wellness Coach are documented and measurable.
What You’ll Own
Inbound Sales
Take inbound sales calls Monday through Friday and handle every order accurately and completely
Recognize when a customer needs a specialist and warm-transfer them while the customer is still on the phone
Complete coding and call notes before moving to the next call
Outbound Reactivation
Call former customers to re-engage them with products they already know and trust
Work your assigned segments in order, with full compliance clearance before any outreach
Build and maintain the pipeline that feeds our reactivation and program-selling motion
Customer Relationships
Run 21-day post-purchase welcome calls to check in on new customers and answer their questions
Qualify leads and book appointments for our Wellness Coaches, with a clean handoff every time
Route retention conversations to the Retention team rather than handling them yourself
Your Own Development
Develop product knowledge deep enough to hold a genuine consultative conversation
Work toward the published advancement criteria for the Wellness Advisor tier
Requirements
Required
Outbound calling experience. Two years minimum in outbound sales or outbound calling, with a track record of sustained outreach to prospects who were not expecting your call.
Phone presence. Clear, warm, and professional. Customers respond to genuine engagement rather than a script.
Documentation discipline. Clean notes and accurate coding on every call. It is how the next person picks up where you left off.
Coachability. You take feedback and apply it quickly.
Systems fluency. Proficient in a CRM, an order system, and a phone platform, and quick to learn new tools.
Working structure. Able to work as a US employee without current or future sponsorship, on a consistent weekday schedule with substantial daily overlap with US Central business hours.
Nice to Have
Inside sales, retention, or customer success experience
Subscription, free trial, or continuity business models
Health, wellness, or supplement DTC experience
UltraCart, HubSpot, or similar commerce and CRM platforms
Lean, fast-paced, or fast-growing team environments
Benefits
Compensation and Growth
$15.50 - $17.00 per hour, plus performance-based bonuses.
This tier is paid hourly rather than on sales commission. That is deliberate: it builds your product knowledge and sales skills before you carry a quota, so your income is steady while you learn, and you are never penalized for handing a customer to the specialist who can serve them best.
Wellness Advisor and Wellness Coach are commissioned roles with accelerators for sustained performance. The criteria to reach them are published, so you will know exactly what it takes from your first day.
Benefits
Remote with a flexible schedule and genuine work/life balance. Medical, dental, and vision insurance. 401(k) with a 3.5% match. Life and disability insurance. Flexible PTO. Discounts on HBI products.
If you are strong on the phone, energized by outbound work, and looking for a role with a clear and measurable path forward, we would love to hear from you.
