Role Description The Owner will oversee the strategic direction and daily operations of RBGSC in a part-time, remote capacity. Responsibilities include managing client relationships, scoping consulting projects, and ensuring high-quality support in experimental design and statistical analysis for agricultural and plant breeding studies. The role involves developing service offerings, coordinating project timelines, and maintaining professional standards in all deliverables. The Owner will also handle business development activities such as outreach, networking, and marketing, as well as basic administrative tasks like budgeting and resource planning. Ongoing learning and engagement with current advances in plant genetics, breeding, and data analysis are expected to keep services aligned with industry needs.

Qualifications

• Strong background in plant genetics, breeding, and quantitative genetics, with the ability to apply concepts to practical R&D projects.
• Proficiency in experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation for agricultural and biological studies.
• Experience managing consulting projects, including client communication, expectation setting, and delivery of technical reports or presentations.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, organize multiple part-time responsibilities, and meet agreed timelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex scientific and statistical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, or similar) and data management tools used in research and breeding programs.
• Demonstrated interest in agriculture, crop improvement, product development, or related fields; prior consulting or industry experience is an advantage.
• Advanced academic training (e.g., master’s or PhD) in genetics, plant breeding, statistics, agronomy, or a related discipline preferred.
