This is an opportunity for a second- or third-year law student who is interested in gaining practical experience in international business law within a global technology company. You'll work closely with an experienced in-house lawyer, supporting legal matters involving commercial agreements, international operations, and regulatory requirements.

This is a fixed-term, part-time position ending August 31, 2027, with approximately 10 hours of work per week. Work will be performed primarily remotely, with occasional in-person attendance at our Carp, Ontario office as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing commercial contracts and other legal agreements, identifying potential legal risks, contractual inconsistencies, and areas requiring further consideration by in-house legal counsel.
  • Conduct legal research relating to international business transactions and cross-border contractual matters.
  • Research and support compliance with international anti-corruption and anti-bribery laws.
  • Assist with legal research and analysis relating to export controls, trade regulations, and international sanctions.
  • Research regulatory requirements concerning forced labour and other international business compliance matters.
  • Review and summarize relevant legislation, regulations, and legal developments across different jurisdictions.
  • Prepare research summaries, notes, and other supporting documentation for in-house legal counsel.
  • Assist with additional legal research and projects as required.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in the second or third year of a Common Law or Civil Law program.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to review and interpret complex legal information.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage assignments independently.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • An interest in commercial contracts, international business law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.

Nice to Have

  • Coursework or academic experience in international business law.
  • Familiarity with commercial contracts, corporate law, or regulatory compliance.
  • An interest in international anti-corruption legislation, export controls, or trade regulations.
  • Bilingualism in English and French, or proficiency in another language.

This position offers the opportunity to apply academic legal knowledge in a practical business environment while gaining exposure to a range of international legal and compliance matters.

There may also be opportunities for full-time summer employment and potential future articling experience for eligible Common Law students, depending on business needs.
