Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient patient billing representative to manage patient inquiries and billing issues. You will play a vital role in ensuring seamless communication between patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers, while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of patient information.
Responsibilities
- Respond to a high volume of patient inquiries via phone, mail, and electronic messaging regarding billing and account-related issues.
- Research and resolve patient billing inquiries by liaising with insurance companies, third-party payers, and other external contacts. Communicate findings accurately to patients and guarantors.
- Collect outstanding balances and update patient demographic and insurance information during patient interactions.
- Verify insurance eligibility using payer websites, available technologies, and direct communication with insurance companies.
- Understand hospital and professional billing practices, including reading and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), billing commercial and government payers, resolving claim denials, and assisting patients with coordination of benefits (COB) and other insurance-related issues.
- Respond to complex patient and guarantor concerns, including payer denials, coding questions, secondary billing, coordination of benefits, and verification of copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
- Review Primary Care Provider (PCP) and self-pay exception reports and resolve outstanding issues.
- Identify recurring billing trends or issues and communicate findings to leadership while assisting with process improvement efforts.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in accordance with departmental procedures and hospital policies.
- Protect the confidentiality and integrity of patient information by following HIPAA regulations and privacy standards.
Essential Skills
- 1+ year of EPIC experience
- Experience working in a multi-specialty ambulatory clinic
- Ability to communicate effectively with insurance companies and understand the claims process
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma required
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work environment with one day per week onsite after completing a few weeks of training. The office is located at 101 Station Drive, Westwood, MA, with free parking available onsite and shuttle service from the MBTA commuter rail station. This role provides a potential for conversion.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westwood, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
