Payroll Administrator

Location: Poole

Salary: Up to £30,000 DOE

Full-time - Hybrid working after a 6-month probation (3 Days from Home).

We're working with a well-established and highly regarded accountancy firm that's looking to strengthen its payroll team.

With a strong presence across the South West and a varied client base, the business offers the expertise and resources of a large professional services firm while maintaining a friendly, supportive working environment. There's a real focus on professional development, collaboration and giving people the support they need to do their jobs well.

The Role

If you enjoy the detail of payroll but also like getting to know your clients, this could be a great next step.

You'll take ownership of your own portfolio of client payrolls each month, making sure employees are paid accurately and on time. It's a varied role where you'll be trusted to manage deadlines, resolve queries and build strong relationships with the businesses you support.

The team works with a diverse client base, this means you'll be working with different payroll requirements, including hourly-paid employees, variable hours and tips, keeping things interesting and giving you plenty of variety.

You'll be joining an established payroll team where you can use your existing experience while continuing to develop your knowledge.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing a portfolio of approximately 30–50 client payrolls each month, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Handling payroll from start to finish, including data input, imports, calculations and final checks.
  • Calculating statutory payments, including maternity, sick and holiday pay.
  • Managing different pay structures, including hourly rates, tips and variable pay.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients, answering queries and building positive working relationships.
  • Identifying discrepancies and resolving payroll issues before they become problems.
  • Keeping up to date with payroll legislation and ensuring payrolls remain compliant.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who knows their way around payroll, enjoys working with numbers and takes pride in getting the details right.

You'll be comfortable managing your own workload, particularly when several client deadlines fall at once, and confident communicating with clients to resolve queries.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous hands-on payroll experience, ideally managing multiple payrolls or a portfolio of clients.
  • Good understanding of payroll calculations, statutory payments and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to spot and investigate discrepancies.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Confident communication skills and a client-focused approach.
  • Good Excel skills, including working with spreadsheets, manipulating data and importing information.
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment where accuracy and deadlines matter.

Experience using Paycircle would be particularly relevant, and knowledge of Xero would also be useful.

Experience within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau would be beneficial, although we're equally interested in hearing from people with relevant payroll experience gained elsewhere.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • The chance to manage your own client portfolio and build lasting relationships.
  • A varied workload, particularly supporting hospitality businesses with different payroll requirements.
  • An established, supportive team with access to wider payroll expertise.
  • Opportunities to develop your payroll knowledge and progress within a larger organisation.
  • A collaborative working environment where attention to detail and client service are genuinely valued.
  • The working pattern is five days in the office during probation, moving to the option of working from home on Monday and Friday thereafter, with Tuesday to Thursday office-based.

Interested?

If you've got solid payroll experience and are looking for a role where you can take ownership of your work while being part of a supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.
