Payroll & Benefits Administrator
Location: Lewisville, TX | Light Hybrid Work Option (in office as needed, no set days) | Open to fully remote in the US for highly qualified candidates
Reports To: Senior Director, People & Culture
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
About the Role
Are you a hands-on payroll and benefits professional who takes ownership, thrives on solving problems, and knows how to get things done without waiting for someone to provide the next step? We’re looking for a proactive, resourceful Payroll & Benefits Administrator who can independently manage critical People Operations processes while continually looking for ways to make them more efficient, accurate, and employee-friendly.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of payroll, benefits, and leave-of-absence administration across a global organization. You’ll serve as a trusted resource for employees, collaborate with internal teams and external vendors, and help ensure our programs run smoothly and compliantly. You’ll also have the opportunity to identify gaps, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement practical improvements that strengthen our processes and the overall employee experience.
Success in this role requires more than following established procedures. We need a self-starter who is comfortable working independently, exercises sound judgment, and takes initiative when challenges arise. You’re someone who digs into problems, identifies root causes, develops solutions, and follows through to completion. Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll is essential, along with the confidence to navigate systems and processes, resolve issues, and take accountability for results.
What You’ll Do
Payroll, Benefits & Leave Administration
-
Own the day-to-day administration and delivery of payroll, benefits, and leave-of-absence programs, helping ensure accurate, timely, and consistent service across the organization.
-
Manage payroll and benefits processes, employee records, controls, and related activities throughout the employee lifecycle.
-
Administer and support payroll operations in Workday Payroll, troubleshooting discrepancies, investigating system or process issues, and helping maintain data integrity.
-
Coordinate benefits administration, employee leave programs, and related People Operations initiatives.
-
Serve as a knowledgeable, responsive resource for employee questions related to payroll, benefits, and leave, providing clear guidance and resolving issues efficiently.
Problem-Solving & Process Improvement
-
Independently investigate payroll, benefits, and system-related issues, identify root causes, and drive solutions through resolution.
-
Proactively identify process gaps, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and the employee experience.
-
Take initiative to develop and implement practical solutions rather than relying on established procedures when those procedures no longer meet business needs.
-
Maintain accurate, confidential records and support reporting, audits, reconciliations, and other operational requirements.
-
Monitor processes and deadlines, anticipate potential issues, and take action before problems affect employees or business operations.
Partnership & Compliance
-
Manage relationships with payroll and benefits vendors, coordinating services, addressing concerns, and holding partners accountable for timely resolution.
-
Partner with People & Culture, Finance, and other internal stakeholders to support effective payroll and benefits delivery.
-
Help maintain compliance with applicable payroll, benefits, leave, and employment requirements across relevant jurisdictions.
-
Communicate process updates, requirements, and employee guidance clearly and effectively.
-
Support broader People Operations, wellness, and employee experience initiatives as needed.
What You’ll Bring
-
Three to five years of progressive experience in payroll, benefits, leave administration, or People Operations.
-
Hands-on experience using Workday Payroll is required. You should be comfortable navigating the system, working with payroll data, investigating discrepancies, and troubleshooting issues. Experience limited to Workday HRIS or other Workday modules, without Workday Payroll experience, does not meet this requirement.
-
Experience administering payroll and benefits in a complex, multi-location organization; global payroll experience is a plus.
-
Working knowledge of payroll and benefits practices, leave administration, applicable compliance requirements, and employee support processes.
-
Experience working with payroll and benefits vendors and coordinating issue resolution across multiple stakeholders.
-
Strong analytical skills and a natural ability to troubleshoot, investigate root causes, and develop effective solutions.
-
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
-
A high degree of discretion when handling confidential employee and compensation information.
-
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
-
Payroll or benefits certifications are a plus.
How You’ll Stand Out
You take ownership. You see a problem through from identification to resolution, take responsibility for outcomes, and follow through without needing repeated reminders.
You’re a self-starter. You can organize your work, establish priorities, anticipate needs, and move projects forward independently. You don’t wait to be told what to do next.
You’re a natural problem solver. When something doesn’t add up, you dig deeper. You ask questions, analyze the details, identify root causes, and find practical solutions instead of simply working around the issue.
You’re comfortable with ambiguity. You can navigate situations without a step-by-step playbook, exercise sound judgment, and know when to make a decision independently versus when to seek input.
You look for better ways to work. You recognize opportunities to simplify processes, reduce errors, improve systems, and create a better experience for employees.
You balance independence with collaboration. You work confidently on your own while communicating proactively, building strong partnerships, and keeping stakeholders informed.
You care about getting the details right. You understand that payroll and benefits directly affect employees, and you take accuracy, confidentiality, compliance, and service seriously.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on essential People Operations functions within a global organization. You’ll have the responsibility to own your work, the opportunity to solve real operational challenges, and the ability to influence how payroll, benefits, and leave processes evolve. If you enjoy taking initiative, improving the way things work, and being the person others trust to find answers and get things done, we’d love to hear from you.
