Job Summary

The role supports weekly and monthly payroll processing for all companies in Workday. This position requires a strong payroll background, analytical skills, a technical (systems) background, and a mature communications style. The abilities to organize, influence others, solve problems, and work with minimal supervision are expected of the incumbent, who needs to balance both production tasks and employee interactions or queries.

Essential Functions

- Running the payroll process which includes calculation, complete and settlement processes to get employees paid.

- Auditing and reviewing retro transactions to complete in time to include in payroll processing.

-Reviewing CAPAS retro transactions to complete and create on demands as required.

-Analyzing reports and audits during the payroll process to prevent inaccurate payroll results.

-Troubleshooting and fixing errors from pay impacting integrations, including UKG, as well as fixing errors discovered during the payroll calculation.

-Providing responsive service to all customers of the Department for Tier 2 tickets through Service Now. They will apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret and explain taxation, garnishments, overtime calculation, and other pay-impacting earnings or deductions.

-Responsible for ensuring that all adjustments that are received are processed accurately in an efficient and timely manner. Adjustments include retro pay, hours adjustments, or fixes supplied by Finance and Human Resources departments as EIBs. They will also process adjustments to employees’ balances, earnings, and taxes as needed or as directed by the Ops Manager or the Director.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Business & Finance preferred. Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree


Licenses and Credentials

  • Certified Payroll Professional [CPP] - PayrollOrg (PAYO) preferred

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification [FPC] - PayrollOrg (PAYO) preferred


Experience

  • 3+ years of experience processing payroll with a record of increasing responsibility required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Adept at payroll calculations, including but not limited to retroactive pay, FLSA overtime, earnings, deductions, and gross-to-net calculations. Understands payroll accounting (taxes and report requirements) and can calculate payroll taxes. Prior experience with transit taxation and deductions a plus.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to research issues and process complex transactions and procedures.

  • Excellent oral & written communication skills, along with confidence and experience in presenting to small groups.

  • Understands the team structure of the payroll operation; responds positively to requests from supervisor to assist others in meeting payroll processing deadlines. Ability to work independently or as a team member and manage competing and conflicting demands on time.

  • Takes ownership and responsibility to complete his/her assigned portion of each payroll. Advises supervisor when needs assistance and when problems arise.

  • Meets deadlines. Attention to detail.

Working Schedule:

  • Hybrid, onsite 4x/month at minimum
  • Location: Assembly Row, Somerville, MA
  • Remote hours require a quiet, secure, HIPAA-compliant working station
