About the Opportunity

Our client, a respected regulatory and not-for-profit organization, is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of multiple payroll programs. This position sits within a collaborative Finance team and offers the opportunity to support a diverse group of stakeholders while contributing to essential financial operations that impact employees, governance members, adjudicators, and program participants.

In this role, you'll work closely with Finance, Human Resources, and external service providers to deliver accurate payroll administration, reporting, and compliance activities. If you enjoy balancing technical expertise with stakeholder support and thrive in an environment where precision and service excellence matter, this could be an excellent fit for you.

What's in it for You

  • Join a collaborative organization with a strong commitment to accountability, integrity, and service excellence.
  • Gain exposure to complex payroll structures, pension administration, audits, and financial reporting.
  • Contribute to meaningful work that supports professionals and communities across Ontario.
  • Enjoy a hybrid work environment that promotes flexibility and work-life balance.

Your Responsibilities

  • You'll lead the administration and validation of multiple payroll cycles, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
  • You'll coordinate payroll processing activities with external payroll service providers, financial institutions, and internal stakeholders.
  • You'll prepare payroll journal entries, account reconciliations, source deduction remittances, year-end accruals, and T-slip reporting.
  • You'll review remuneration and expense submissions for accuracy, reasonableness, and policy compliance, providing guidance when required.
  • You'll support audits by preparing working papers, responding to auditor requests, and maintaining payroll-related records and documentation.
  • You'll generate reports and analyses for leadership, committees, government agencies, and service providers.
  • You'll act as a trusted resource to internal teams, supporting best practices and providing guidance on payroll processes and compliance requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive payroll and benefits administration experience, including at least 2 years in a senior-level payroll capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Certified Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation through the National Payroll Institute.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, CRA requirements, source deductions, remittances, benefits administration, and pension processes.
  • Experience preparing payroll-related reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support documentation.
  • Proficiency with Dayforce, Microsoft Office 365, and reporting tools such as Cognos or Power BI.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, customer service, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
