This is a junior-mid level IT Solutions Engineering role supporting the design and implementation of enterprise technology solutions for PG&E. The selected candidate will work alongside senior engineers, architects, product specialists and other technical teams throughout the full project lifecycle.

The person will help translate business requirements into practical technology designs, evaluate solution alternatives and ensure implemented systems align with the approved architecture.

Key responsibilities include:

Assist with technology-platform and solution designs.

Help evaluate buy-versus-build options.

Support requirements analysis, early project estimates and business cases.

Confirm that physical system configurations align with logical designs.

Help develop reusable technology components and services.

Coordinate across application, infrastructure and information teams.

Support engineering decisions during planning, analysis, design, build, testing and deployment.

Confirm that integrated products and components meet business, technical and performance requirements.

Learn PG&E’s utility operations, technology standards and Solution Engineering practices.

Participate in process-improvement initiatives.

Ideal candidate profile:

Associate degree in computer science, engineering, business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Some experience in IT solution design, systems engineering, technical implementation or IT project management.

Foundational understanding of applications, infrastructure, systems architecture and integration.

Strong analytical, communication, documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Ability to learn utility business processes and enterprise architecture practices quickly.

Exposure to Six Sigma or another process-improvement methodology is helpful.

PMP or another relevant certification is preferred, not mandatory.

Work arrangement: Primarily remote with onsite attendance as needed. Candidates should be local because travel may involve trips of up to three hours each way within one business day.

Job Responsibilities:

Assists other Engineers in creating comprehensive technology platform solution designs that meet business solution requirements on IT projects.

Applies knowledge of IT standards, service offerings and operational options to assist in developing an implementation approach of technology solution alternatives.

Assist in ensuring that the physical design and configuration of the delivered solutions are in direct alignment with the logical design.

Assists in promoting the development and reuse of common solutions, components and services.

Collaborate with other domain specific (application, infrastructure, or information) Engineers, Architects, Product Specialists, System Design Engineers and technologists to complete IT deliverables.

Work with other engineers, architects and product specialists to ensure that the products and components work together to meet the objectives and performance goals as defined in the requirements.

Assists with buy vs.

build decisions, business requirements impact analysis, refinement of early-phase project estimates which contribute to the business case, and implementation level design.

Provides support function for Solution Engineering design decisions during plan, analyze, design, build, test, and deploy phases of IT projects

Education Minimum: Associates degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related degree or equivalent experience

Education Desired: Bachelors degree License/Certification Desired: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification; Other job related certification Experience Desired: IT engineering design and/or technical project implementation experience Project Management IT experience Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and (Technical) Competencies: Ability to quickly learn and understand a core business area of a utility, of how technology plays a key enabler/support role.

Ability to quickly learn process design, information modeling or system architecture within a core business area of a utility.

Ability to quickly develop an understanding of the Solution Engineering discipline, processes, concepts and best practices.

Exposure to a process improvement discipline (i.e., Six Sigma) used within a technology supported business process implementation.
