About the Company

Saab Australia is a defence, security and cyber solutions provider, specialising in the development and integration of major defence and security systems. For over 35 years in Australia, Saab has built a reputation for delivering complex systems integration projects that provide proven and advanced capabilities to stay ahead of today’s challenges. Since 2019, the business has more than tripled in size and is continuing to grow, with headcount projected to reach between 1,300 and 1,400 by year’s end — bringing both significant opportunity and complexity.

About the Role

The People & Culture Business Partner partners with leaders across an assigned portfolio of three to four teams, around 250 people, delivering practical people solutions that support performance, capability and engagement. Reporting to the P&C Business Delivery Manager, you’ll be part of a collaborative People Partnering team and provide end-to-end HR support across your portfolio, operating as an embedded member of each leadership team and contributing to business planning.

The Opportunity

This is a genuine partnering role in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, where curiosity is your greatest asset: getting to know how Saab does business, asking the right questions and taking real ownership of your portfolio from end to end.

A key focus is preventative partnering, coaching leaders through informal performance management and ER/IR matters early so issues are resolved before they need formal intervention. You’ll work closely with the Advisory, Talent Acquisition, L&D and People Experience teams, connecting the dots across P&C so the business receives joined-up support, and help bring Saab’s values of Drive, Trust and Expertise to life.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with leaders across your portfolio, providing fit-for-purpose advice on a wide range of workforce matters
  • Coach and guide leaders on ER and IR matters, interpreting legislation and policy and liaising with the Advisory team where matters escalate
  • Lead preventative work and informal performance management, resolving issues early and keeping work out of formal channels
  • Support leaders with team structures, resourcing, internal transitions, onboarding and local change initiatives
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition, L&D and People Experience to address skill and capability gaps
  • Use workforce data and analytics to identify trends and risks, delivering evidence-based advice and reporting to leaders
  • Embed Saab’s culture and values in day-to-day practice, contributing to engagement, wellbeing and inclusion initiatives

Skills & Background

  • Sound experience in an HR Business Partner or generalist HR role, ideally in a smaller team where you’ve worked directly with an HR Manager and turned your hand to a bit of everything
  • Solid ER and IR knowledge, with the confidence to interpret, advise and guide leaders in the moment (investigations sit with the Advisory team)
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills, with a genuine partnering mindset
  • A curious, problem-solving approach: you ask questions, look beneath the surface and seek out better ways of working
  • Resilience and sound judgement, with the ability to find constructive ways back into the conversation when leaders push back
  • An understanding of how partnering and Talent Acquisition work together to support the business
  • Comfort working with data, with experience in Workday (or similar) and the Microsoft suite
  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline, or equivalent experience; AHRI membership preferred
  • Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain Defence security clearance (NV1)

Culture & Benefits

With over 1,100 employees in Australia and 27,000 globally, Saab offers an innovative, high-performing environment that supports long-term careers, growth and work-life balance.

Benefits include: 6 weeks paid annual leave | 14% superannuation | Free Income Protection Insurance | Share matching scheme | Standard hours of 8.30am–5pm or 8am–4.30pm, with no out-of-hours work | 1 day WFH

If you’re a curious, resilient, relationship-driven HR professional ready to own a portfolio, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.
