  • Progression opportunity to build, influence and lead our People & Culture function
  • Work from home
  • Build knowledge across multiple jurisdictions

Atmail is evolving and we need someone who will not simply administer HR processes – we need you to build them, improve them and challenge them.

This is a rare opportunity to create a high-impact Human Resources position which will work directly with our CEO and leadership team. You will own the HR functions, from recruitment, and employee relations, through to performance management, compliance, culture, remuneration, WHS and people strategy.

We are not wanting you to maintain the status quo – we need you to review the current frameworks, improve our processes, challenge our thinking and help us to ensure our people processes are practical, consistent, compliant and aligned with where the business is heading.

Atmail Values

Our values are at the core of how we work together and how we support our people:

  • Be the Team
  • Think Customer
  • Be Authentic
  • Get It Done Right
  • Be a Protector

Background

Atmail is reshaping the business operating model around three core pillars: Product, Service and Promise, while strengthening the supporting functions that enable our people and customers to succeed.

Our customers sit at the centre of this model, supported by a culture of innovation, engineering excellence, flexibility and a strong customer-first mindset.

A key part of this role will be making our culture explicit: understanding how well we are living our values, identifying where there are gaps and working with leadership to turn those insights into practical action.

The opportunity for you

Atmail is bringing its human resources capability in-house and establishing a mature, consistent People & Culture function. This is a hands-on, stand-alone role covering the full employee lifecycle, including:

  • Culture, engagement and employee experience
  • Workforce planning and organisational design
  • Talent acquisition and retention
  • Employment compliance and industrial relations
  • Performance and development
  • Work health & safety
  • HR policies, systems and processes
  • Workforce reporting

There is no HR team beneath you, so this role will suit someone who enjoys autonomy, and is comfortable building the culture as you go.

You will have access to administrative support and external specialists when expertise is required.

Within this role you can bring a clear point of view to the leadership team however you must have the confidence to know when to act independently, when to seek advice and when to escalate issues.

What skills are we looking for?

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience with broad generalist HR and culture experience across the workplace.
  • Significant experience working autonomously and advising leadership.
  • Attention to detail with a working knowledge of employment law and industrial relations, with the capacity to interpret legislation.
  • Experience building or significantly improving HR frameworks, policies and processes.
  • Experience with procedural fairness, discretion and applying sound judgement.
  • Recruitment and employee engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex obligations and difficult decisions clearly.
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and coaching skills.
  • The confidence to constructively challenge leadership while maintaining trusted stakeholder relationships.
  • The ability to interpret people data, identify trends and communicate clear recommendations.
  • Strong accountability, judgement and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong HR systems and technology capability, including the ability to improve processes and introduce practical outcomes.

Primary duties

  • Build and continuously improve the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to performance, development, internal movement and exit.
  • Lead employment compliance across the jurisdictions in which Atmail employs people.
  • Develop and maintain practical HR policies, procedures and the Code of Conduct.
  • Provide trusted advice to employees, managers, the CEO and leadership team on people matters.
  • Manage employee and industrial relations matters.
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment, from workforce planning and role design through to selection, offers and onboarding.
  • Manage remuneration and benefits, including annual salary reviews, market benchmarking and remuneration advice.
  • Embed Atmail’s values through onboarding, policies, manager guidance, communications and people decisions.
  • Lead people-related aspects of WHS, including remote-working safety, psychosocial risks, incidents and return-to-work.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, HR systems and workforce data.
  • Develop meaningful people analytics and reporting.

Desirable

It would be advantageous to have:

  • A tertiary qualification in HR, industrial relations, psychology, business or a related discipline, and/or AHRI Certified HR Practitioner (CPHR) status or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience as the sole or lead HR practitioner in a small or mid-sized organisation.
  • Experience supporting employees within the technology sector across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to be flexible and support colleagues across other time zones or respond to urgent or sensitive people matters.
  • Capacity to undertake occasional interstate and international travel.

If you are ready to take ownership of the HR function, influence the leadership team and help shape the people and culture of Atmail, then this is your opportunity...don’t miss it!
