The company

Our client is an international beauty company that creates and develops a portfolio of global premium brands in makeup, skincare and haircare. The brands are sold through retail partners and dedicated retail teams in several markets.

The company works with an entrepreneurial, agile and informal culture, with a start-up mindset: can-do, daring and creative. It combines fast decision making and creativity with the standards of a premium international group. Values such as a can-do spirit, diversity and inclusion, and respect in the way people work together are central to its identity.

The role

The People & Culture Manager runs HR for the Singapore office and stores, and supports the Australian teams (office and retail). The role partners closely with the General Manager for the region, based in Singapore.

This is a hands-on generalist role with a high level of autonomy. The person is the HR reference on the ground, supported by an international P&C community across Asia Pacific, Europe and the US, by global HR systems and by external HR service providers.

Key responsibilities

  • HR operations: coordinate external payroll, legal and benefits providers, and ensure the quality of HR administration (payroll inputs, employment contracts and amendments, onboarding and offboarding, leave and absence, HRIS data).
  • Employee and manager support: answer and resolve queries from employees and managers in Singapore and Australia, across time zones.
  • Reporting: maintain accurate employee records and prepare regular reporting on headcount, attrition, leave and other people metrics.
  • Recruitment: lead recruitment for occasional vacancies in Singapore and Australia.
  • Performance: support the performance management cycle, with quality, consistency and strong manager ownership.
  • Employee experience: build close relationships with office and retail teams, and run engagement initiatives with the global and international P&C teams.
  • Employee relations: co-lead employee relations matters with clear, practical and risk-aware guidance, adapting policies to local legal requirements, with support from external legal advisers.

Profile

  • Several years of experience as an HR generalist or HR business partner, with practical knowledge of Singapore employment law. Knowledge of Australian employment legislation is a plus.
  • Experience with regional HR operations and with external providers (payroll, legal, immigration, benefits).
  • Able to work autonomously in a lean team, with a manager in another country.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, international environment and with leaders from different cultures.
  • Can-do, creative and daring: takes ownership, proposes ideas and moves things forward in an environment with few set processes.
  • Background in beauty, retail, luxury, fashion, consumer brands, technology or fast-growing companies is appreciated. Recruitment experience across several countries is an advantage.
  • Degree appreciated (an HR degree is not required).

What the role offers

  • Premium international brands and a start-up culture
  • High autonomy and a direct link with the business and the store teams
  • An international P&C community and exposure to Australia and Europe
  • Hybrid work, with a work-from-anywhere programme of up to two weeks per year
