Role: PeopleSoft HR/Payroll Consultant
Location: San Jose, CA (Remote)
Duration: 12+ Months
Pay Rate: $70 to $75
Overview: We are consolidating multiple employee IDs into a Single ID within PeopleSoft HCM. The project is underway, and the current design approach has run into conflicts with Payroll's requirements. The Client is looking for a senior PeopleSoft Payroll functional expert who can come in mid-project and:
- Diagnose where the current approach breaks down
- Recommend a workable design
- Guide HR, Payroll, and IT teams to a solution that keeps payroll accurate and uninterrupted
This is an advisory and hands-on problem-solving role, not a ramp-up role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the current Single ID design and identify where it conflicts with payroll processing requirements
- Recommend and drive a revised functional approach that meets Payroll's needs, and get HR, Payroll, and IT aligned on it
- Act as the County's functional authority on payroll impacts, filling the gap that vendor support channels have not resolved
- Evaluate how consolidating multiple employee IDs into one ID with multiple employment records affects downstream processes:
- Pay groups
- Earnings and paysheet
- Retro pay
- Balances
- Deductions
- FLSA
- Check generation
- Define future-state workflows, then support data mapping, conversion, validation, and parallel payroll testing
- Work with technical teams on interface and integration changes
- Produce functional documentation, train end users, and support go-live
- 10+ years of PeopleSoft HCM/Payroll for North America functional experience, with strong hands-on payroll configuration depth
- Hands-on experience on at least one PeopleSoft Single ID or employee ID consolidation project, including handling multiple employment records under one ID and the resulting payroll impacts
- Expert knowledge of:
- Earn codes and earnings programs
- Paysheet build and pay calendars
- Retroactive pay and adjustments
- Multiperiod payroll processing
- Pay group setup
- FLSA configuration and calculations, including overtime and regular rate across multiple jobs
- A track record of stepping into troubled or stalled projects and resetting the approach
- Public sector or county payroll experience strongly preferred (union contracts, complex earnings rules)
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to make a clear recommendation to HR, Payroll, and IT stakeholders and build consensus around it
